LoFi – Toy Camera II

Hi Guys,
Just a quick thanks to all I met up with yesterday, and to Sinead for organising.Looking forward to seeing the results from some of the weird and wonderful cameras on display (especially that Lomo fisheye).
Unfortunately, I won’t be able to post any images, as there’s a fault with the Holga I only noticed when I got home.
The makers omitted to fit in the USB port, so now I’ve no way of downloading the images!
I knew this modern technology would let me down at some stage, probably should have stuck with film. :roll:Rog
pallotronParticipantGuys,
for the italians the lo-fi day continued today, we went around the guiness brewery to take some more pics.
also: i’ve ordered my Holga from ebay, i got addicted :)jb7ParticipantWow, can’t believe there have been so many issues with Holgas, Lubi’s, and, em, Pilot Error with Zoltan’s-
Dave Dunne is going to be very busy with replacements…Wasn’t without trouble myself,
one roll jammed, had to improvise a changing bag with my jacket…Fintan, I believe I only missed you by minutes,
must talk again…Yes, the Guinness Brewery to take pictures-
what else would you be doing there…ExpresbroParticipantRog wrote:

Hehehe!! Post of the day for me :-)
RobMemberYes, a terrific day out, and great to see you all there and
to meet a few new people too…Sorry I’ve not been around much lately, but hopefully should
be getting back into the swing of things soon…Should have a few new pictures soon too…
Once again, thanks to all for another great day out, and
particularly to Sinead for organising it all again…thedarkroomParticipantGreat day on Saturday, thanks Sinead for organising it. We’ll all be looking forward to the next one as this one was such a success. Great weather, great company, great locations for taking photographs, great collection and variety of cameras . . . now . . . as for the photos? Already I see several people making excuses before they even take the film out of the camera. Come on folks, the whole point is to come back with rubbish from rubbish cameras and then resurrect some images from the dross :)
I’m heading in to the darkroom shortly and I expect nothing but crap, crap . . . and more crap. The little XA is probably the only thing that might have a correct exposure but as for the Lomo, it will be all over the place. I did learn one thing from the Lomo, believe it or not, read the manual. On the day, couldn’t figure out why the flash wouldn’t work and reckoned it must be broken. When I got home, I was sitting on the settee looking over it and noticed a little light cell beside the lens and thought, “What? It has a light meter? No way.” I decided to read the manual and discovered that it was a photo cell which measured the light and decided whether or not to fire the flash. It wasn’t a flash meter or anything, just a switch device controlled by light levels. I was very disappointed, this camera was not as Lo-Fi as I expected. I was given a dud. Huh! Lesson – Read the Manual!
Anyway, darkroom here I come and looking forward to seeing the results. Thanks Sinead for everything, good to meet you all – some for the first time – some again. And to those who didn’t turn up – Nah nah na nah nah!!!!
jessthespringerParticipantHi everyone,
thanks to all for coming out on Saturday, was really great to see so many of you out there. Apologies for being slightly late, the bus was raided,
custom officers boarded the bus at the border, looking for someone carrying illegally imported film, from Columbia. Allegedly. :wink:Once again it was brilliant to see so many quirky cameras being branded, really looking forward to the pictures!!
I think my pictures are going to be on a new level of crap. hehehe… But, yes David is right, rubbish from rubbish. So, no excuses!
Special mention of thanks to Rog for lending me a wide angle for the afternoon.
And, also, thank you very much to Fintan, for passing a Lubitel my way. How cool is that!!
I think I managed to figure it all out and got to take some pictures with it yesterday afternoon, by chance I bumped into a Russian man, who was so happy to see a Russian camera,
he translated Lubitel, to mean, to have love of many things, or the love of many things. Cool.Funnier parts of the day for me were seeing the mass gathering around Fintan, George and Joseph, of confused and bewildered little faces with requests of,
“can you show me how to use this?”
“my camera seems to be broken”
and…
“where does the film go?”lol.
Oh, and the group picture. And, the other picture, of the very nice young man from TV.
Sinead
GizzoParticipantI am not nice, nor young (well -ish) and I don’t do TV.
so I guess that is not my picture.that aside, I have lots of things to say. about this meetup and about PI in general.
give me some time to rationalize.one thing for sure. people from this forum, they rock.

SineadI really can not figure out who are you talking about :?: :?: :?: :?: :?: :?:
And Gizzo…c’mon we all know you’re even nicer and younger than the TV guy!
a.
DenverDollParticipantThanks to Sinead and all from me too!
It was a great day that just flew by and it was to meet so many people who I have admired on here but never had a face for :D I am only disappointed that I didnt get the opportunity to let more of you know that. There were quite a few people who I wanted to chat with, but did not get to see you again after we split up.
Also, it was wonderful to see those of you who I had already at the pleasure of meeting before. What a great group!
Am halfway home now. Got suck in NJ. No room for me on the flight home to Denver, so I am thinking of just taking an extra day here in NY and not rush because I have a lot of film left and can see from the roof here that it is going to be a beautiful day in NYC.
Looking forward to the next adventure~Sharon
Sinead..I forgot your damn birthday present again!!! my perfect excuse to lure you to Dublin again

No Problem, Sinead.
The thing is, though, when you get your film processed, I think you may be sorry :cry:Before putting that Sigma in a bag to return to the guy who loaned it, I stuck it on a Canon 1Ds II full-frame digital just to try a couple of test shots and…WOW!
I’ve two Canon L series zooms that cover 24mm, and it’s way sharper than either. In fact, it seems to be the sharpest wide-angle I’ve come across, either zoom or prime, including Canon, Nikon & Olympus.Add that to the fact that it’s tiny and light, fairly fast (f2.8 ), can focus to about 5″, and has great bokeh, and it’s just made a detour into my camera bag. :D
I don’t know wheither this is one of the best kept lens secrets, or this just happens to be a “sweet” example, but it had no right to be on a Lo-Fi outing. :?
Anyway, thanks again for the invite, and I’ll be curious to see the results of the OM1.
Rog
jessthespringerParticipantOkay, a few other things I just remembered…
Thanks to Joseph and Zoltan for some film. Looking forward to using that Velvia…
And some other funny things that happened. Robbie dropping his “f*****g Bronica, while talking to his wife on the phone while at the same time searching his pockets for car keys,
the Bronica was fine, it was rescued by Sharons toes.
Me trying to explain this Goerdie Mouse to three Italians, one Romanian and an American
And, Gigi asking me if I’d like some roasted chickens (to be fair, I think maybe it was just the two of us that found that one funny)But anyway, all good fun…
Rog – Yes, very nice lens indeed. I didn’t take too many pictures with it, as you say, not really LoFi…
One more here…
A few others from the day…
My camera even had a few pictures of me on it. I think this one is by Angelo… (I’m the one on the left…)
AlessiaParticipantthedarkroomParticipantYeh, lovely pics, but Zoltan looks so serious. Are you sure he enjoyed himself, I wouldn’t want to think that he was made to turn up against his wishes :)
Thanks again for a great day,David

Thanks again for a great day,David
in the first pic he was probably bored (more than serious) because of me annoying him with my Lubitel problems :(
