“Im extremly confused and somwhat bewildered,This all sounds very interesting, but i havent a clue what anyone is talking about,(excuse ignorance). What i can make of it is your all going out on a field trip for the day, LED BY A BLONDIE ONE FROM THE NORTH, on a boat come car,or a walk through the market. You will all be wearing baseball caps? One chap is taking a plank? And by the sound of things your using plastic cameras of some sort.Im well behind with the jargon so some insight will help. What is a plank?why is a baseball cap a nessesity? A hand knitted what?..Lastly i can understand why these outings are so popular; It must be one fun mad day,out with a posse of total loopers.Being one myself im tempted to do one in the future. Thanks in advance.”

Sinead, a suggestion. Could you edit your first post and give a clearer picture of the upcoming event… I am sure, a lot of people are struggling to figure out what lofi is… give the new members a chance! Just a thought.

I don’t know at all… I leave you alone for 5 mins and all manner of silliness breaks out….

snappit – you are more than welcome to join us. It’s a LoFi day, there is a LoFi thread here on the forum if you take a visit over there it might give you a clearer picture of what LoFi is all about,
so, on the day, we are going to meet up with our LoFi cameras (fancy digital SLR’s are not permitted, anyone branding such a camera will receive a swift penalty of a judo chop from Martin) there
are heaps of cameras that come under the heading of LoFi… Pinhole, Holga etc Some even make (knit) their own cameras for the day (jb7 for one, he can answer the question of knitting).

LoFi is the theme, I like everyone to at least shoot one roll of film through some such camera. If you don’t have one, let us know, a few of us have more than one camera and while I can’t speak for anyone else,
I’d be happy to lend you one of mine.

    Vintage cameras are also welcome.

Anyway, keep in touch, your very welcome, the last day out we had was a lot of fun.

George – It’s brown now. Not blonde

Zoltan – Yes. Good idea. I’ll do that tomorrow. Right now, I need to sleep…

    Okay Lofi’ers,

We need to decide a few things…

Where are we meeting? I suggest the, Irish Film Institute, Templebar? Anyone else?
What time are we meeting at?
What are we going to do?

Right Sinead, seeing as you have asked…

Place: Ok, let’s meet at the IFI, Temple Bar.

Time: as early as possible to take full advantage of the light.

What do we do: This is the most difficult of the three q’s you have asked.

My own thoughts are that :

a). Some 21 people have so far declared. The thoughts of almost two dozen people tripping over each other capturing the same scenes is not something that I would believe would help gather a great variety of images…although it would no doubt be good craic.

    b) As it is World Toy Camera Day and we would likely be (I’d say) the largest group of like minded lo-fi photographers in Dublin that day, then I think it might be a reasonable idea to split up into teams of four and set out with specific objectives in mind. For example one group sets out to picture people, another group architecture, another transport, another group street photography or whatever. This way we might be able to build up a set of images which have been taken on World Toy Camera Day and which are truly representative of the conditions, light etc present on the day. A selection of images could then be posted on behalf of the group on the World Toy Camera Day webpage which would give a good representation of PI and of how the day was celebrated in Dublin, Ireland?

    c) As much as it might seem great fun, I think it would be nice to avoid too much of the ‘Seoirse takes Nfl’s photo’ or ‘Zoltan’s hair cut’ type pics. Ok maybe someone could act as group photographer to record the day in terms of who was there, but I would think it important that photos of ourselves would represent no more than about 3 per cent of images captured on the day.

    Just my 2c.
