Long Exposures from the 40-foot

Fisrt posting here on this forum. These are images taken at the 40-foot in Sandycove in Dublin. All shots were in and around 120 seconds each, taken at midday a couple of weeks ago. I used a welder’s mask glass as an ND filter
Thanks for looking!
Paul
stdanevMemberpoolbegphotoMemberoops…that’s not right. Hang on…
now, hopefully these are visible – linked now from flickr instead of my own site
shutterbugParticipantMe too! and I read the title totally wrong…..hehe
40ft long….wow some print …….. doh!pullandbangMemberGreat shots with lovely smooth milky water.
How do you hold the filters on the camera or do they fit in a holder?
Did you shoot in RAW and then correct the WB or did you do it in the camera beforehand?poolbegphotoMemberthanks pullandbang. The glass was held onto the camera using two rubber bands and the shots were shot in RAW and corrected afterwards in Lightroom
suspectmonkeyMemberReally like this set, particularly the second photo. The textures and processing really grab me, and its an excellent composition from a scene that many might disregard.
miki gParticipantI was thinking 40ft, fe^k,I’ll be scrolling all day. #1 would be my favourite. It looks more like mountain peeks coming out of the clouds than a seascape. Nice
niallmacParticipantthese are fantastic. you know i’m going to be stealing that welders mask idea now?!
jb7ParticipantVery good-
the longest exposure I’ve done is only 6 and a half meters…Welcome to the site, good stuff here-
High tide definitely seems to be the way to approach the Forty Foot-
I had a look once, must give it another go now, after seeing these-I like the minimal saturation too-
joseph
poolbegphotoMemberThanks all for the comments.
Niallmac – steal away, sure didn’t I steal it from someone else. Just get yourself a good supply of rubber bands as the glass isn’t very polished around the edges
This was my first time down there – I had heard of the 40-foot before but was never in that area. Some great rocks down there, you really have to be well-balanced (physically, not mentally, although that helps too) to clamber over them with camera in one hand
5faytheParticipantHi Paul,
Welcome to PI.
I must say these are really good images and they make interesting viewing.
Theres a little bit of originality at work here to my eye and that’s always good. They remind me a bit of how clouds often look from a plane.
Did you do a FAS course on using that mask and more importantly
did you pass?Well done and I look forward to seeing more.
Cheers.
John.
poolbegphotoMemberyes john, I did a Fas course and that is why I am unable to use them properly
thanks for the comments
DenverDollParticipantI barely ever get on here and have time to comment..but I noticed the description and was fascinated. What a beautiful result! The second photo is absolutely great! Welcome to the site :)
Sharon
aoluainParticipantVery nice, lovely processing too, just a hint of colour!
