I’m new to the photography only getting a DSLR recently but I was a reasonable long jumper in my early days and even from shot take of me jumping I’d have a fair idea of what makes a good impact.
Getting low for the shot is good as long jump can look quite flat at times and the lower you get the more the appearence of height will be in the photo.
Also take off and landing pictures are good as you tend to get a lot of expression on the subjects face as well as showing strain on the body due to the impact. It’s always nice to see the sand shoot up and out of the pit as the jumper lands. Regarding the take off – jumping from grass will not give the as much impact as a proper long jump board.
There are quite a few tracks around now and I sure people would like to have their pics taken if you just ask…
