    Hi Ashley,

I feel a bit silly offering critique on this after looking at your website

    Beautiful images on it.

    Here goes anyway. . .

The image above is really nice but I feel the crop is a bit tight on the bottom,
just too close to the reflection of the boat, also the boat to the extreme left
mid frame is a bit distracting and again too close to the frame edge.
otherwise a really nice image and nice composition.

Whoa some effort involved even to get this shot., I am impressed.
Its a lovely image and the reflection of the smaller boat seals the shot.
    Congrats

That is some effort to go to! I agree with Alan that a bit more space at the bottom and left would help, but technically superb.

wow that was an interesting story behind the shot – are you being paid for this one? also the title of the image duplicated in the name of the boat – nice touch :)

had a look at your website, fantastic!

Why did you need to buy a 500 lens just for this shot…

why not go out on one of the many boats in both bays and take from the boat, i doubt you needed long shutter speed..

    Very good Ashley.

The extra space in the original image works better.

Thumbs up from me anyway !!

Yes… I was feeling a bit silly… too much Coca Cola with my lunch… posted… then when the sugar levels dropped decided to delete.

I think the point is that not everything photography related has to be associated with a “tangible value” or “client worth”… I felt the thread was very much geared towards this… when in fact it is a critique forum where the image is posted. I just do it for the enjoyment… and nothing has a price.

From a critique perspective I don’t think the image has much impact to be quite honest… I wouldn’t pay for it… because it appears quite ordinary to me.

I doubt that a lot, if not most, of the people who post critique in these forums do so with the monetary value of a photo dominating their thoughts… but I could of course be wrong… and that’s not to say that it is wrong… but your initial posting on this thread doesn’t clearly set out the context of which you’re posting the image for critique.

Whilst it’s fine to say “one man’s rubbish is another mans treasure”… in the context of this critique forum I find it almost as if you’re dismissing my comments that the image(s) posted are pretty average. If you post an image for critique and someone offers their thoughts… then it’s not really appropriate to dismiss them, since it was you that asked for them in the first instance.

“Here’s my photo, what do you think?”

“Not great, I don’t really like it”

“Well, I don’t care cos I’m going to make a bag of cash with this”

    “Err…”

Anyway… I wish you all the best and hope that the photo serves you well in whatever context they are used.
