these are a few shots i took a few weeks back for a college project i should have done last April. i had to find a public figure to photograph and from the images create a mock magazine cover. This, obviously, is Dublin Lord Mayor Gerry Breen, photographed in the Mansion House. He’s quite a nice chap as it happens, showed me around a bit and gave me some free pens and a Mansion House tie
any suggestions on improving this, particularly the mag cover? i’ve still got a few weeks to hand up, anybody want to suggest a better headline?
Firstly let me say that portrait shots are definitely not my forte so not sure how qualified I am to answer. Anyway, the first thing that struck me about the mag cover was that the main subject seemed to be very much to the right, making the whole page look a bit unbalanced. Even if you could bring it in enough to include the chain on his left shoulder it may help. I appreciate that you’re trying to make room for the terrible twins  on the left but I think you could compromise a bit. On that note, I’m not sure the colouring for Jedward works – that blue just seems to stand out a bit too much for my liking, almost taking away from the main pic. Just my opinions :D
I think the photo need more work on the colour and fix the highlight balance!
I think it would be better if he just do something, but standing straight look at the camera is boring as he seems to be uncomfortable.
Maybe sitting on the chair or elbow onto the fireplace,etc..would make the person more relax!
