edited it to be smaller- hows this?

First off welcome to the forum :)

The picture you posted is full resolution, so it’s too big to view on the screen without needing to scroll. This makes it difficult for people to really look at your shot and more often than not, it will go without critique/comments. I’d suggest posting smaller versions of the shots here for comments.

Much better :) There’s so much to like about this shot.. the face appearing out of the darkness, the emotion on the face, it gives a very emotive feel. Unfortunately though it’s pretty soft and the direct flash has led to it being very flat, but all in all I still like it. I’m not a fan of the second though, but that’s probably more to do with my personal preference for natural looking photos more so than the overcooked Photoshopped ones. Looking forward to seeing more from you.

EDIT: Can I also suggest you post only one at a time (or perhaps 2)? It’s unlikely you’ll get meaningful critique from people if you post too many shots at once.

Thank you for taking the time to look, and comment Ciaran!
I do see what you mean about the slight flatness, im using a bit or a scrapper camera at the moment- {Nytech 4020} so there is only SO much i can do. I am hoping however someone will take me up on my ludicrously ot hinting {leaving the jessops catalougue out, opened, circling the camera i want} and buy me a digital SLR for christmas!

On the second one, I am new to photography, and new to photoshop, and I am just learning, and experimenting at the moment, with different styles and tools, in order to be profeciant in photography. Don’t get me wrong though, i beleive that it’s more important to take a great photo- than it is to make a mediocre photo look snazzy by photoshopping it to death!
It’s all just trial and error for meat the moment, and Photoshop is a great way for me to learn, and understand about lighting, as well as playing around with effects.

    I won’t post anymore than 2 at a time again…

Thanks again, for the welcome, and the comments!

    Hi Jakki,
    welcome aboard.

I do agree with ciaran about the overcooking of no.2, but at the same time, I think its the best of the 4.
maybe you still have the original and can re-process it?

Number 4 looks like you’ve been experimenting with the lighting effects in photoshop-

I hope these aren’t self-portraits? They put me in mind of those smack head photos that are designed to discourage potential junkies.

Numbers 1 & 2 could be really haunting images with the right finish.

Well done for posting up so many photos for feedback. I hope you’ll find the comments helpful.

    Not self portraits, no.

The whole “series” was just an experiment, and I think some have come across really sad, and emotional, and some have come across- junkie, both are good- as long as they are coming across as something. When i gainmore experience I’ll try for more specific themes.

    Thanks all for the comments.
