Lough Bofin, Connemara

(click image for a larger version)This was taken just outside of Oughterard, along the N59 Clifden Road. I used my 70-200 zoom in on the island, and waited for a cloud to block the sun to prevent flare. I was thinking B&W when I took it, and I’m quite happy with the way it turned out. All C&C welcome!

DaveMurdochParticipantsndipoMemberBeen on that island myself. It is a very beautiful place! Love what you’ve done to it, brilliant! :)
RASMITH32MemberI saw a shot posted of this image a while back and there was a comment stating that it was felt there was a a better shot to be had, well this is it!!!. This is a fantastic shot and would hold pride of place printed on any wall in my house. I love the halo along the ridge in the middle. It serves to strengthen the mountain behind and presents it beautifully. Was this mist or unintentional processing that has successfully created the effect?.
I will point out one minor issue though, I would clone out the small cloud on the top right.
Well done again!
DougLParticipantThanks for the comments guys…appreciate it.
RAS, re: the halo, I agree that it really sets off the mountain. I think it gives a sense of depth because it separates the mountain from the ridge of trees. I didn’t add it in in post-processing, but the contrast mask I applied certainly enhanced it. Despite the showers that were around all day, the air was actually quite hazy. The mountain, Shannavara, is about 10km away, so I think the haze and direct sunlight from just off the left side of the frame combined to create the effect. I also selectively burned in both the ridge and the top of the mountain to better define them. Good point about the cloud…I think I will clone it out. I never know where to draw the line on cloning things out.
