Good composition but I think that on the bottom part of the photo is too much water. I would crop it upto the shadow of the boat.
It can be good in monochrom as well.Mick451ParticipantI like this, Winkauss.
Even though there are strong compositional lines going through the centre of the image the way the boat is angled breaks it up and makes it appealing. The only thing I would have done differently would been to have taken the photo from a lower angle.SwordieMemberWinkauss, I think the sky needs some work to give it impact – or eliminate it altogether.
The water also needs a bit of colour.
I like the angle of the boat. The composition of the image needs to be worked on. A better crop would help.
See if this works any better:RobMemberThanks for the comments guys, appreciate it. The square crop was intentional on my behalf, with the angled boat breaking up that centre line. I did try other crops but opted for this one in the end. I’d like to have taken the picture from a lower angle but didn’t have my waders with me. 8) I like both the crop and the colour of the water in Swordie’s version, though the grass is a bit unnatural looking on my LCD, almost flourescent. But thanks for all your tips. There’s no better way to learn. 8)

Yes, I agree. The colours may be a bit strong and need to be modified. But I’m just trying to point out that it’s worth cropping a picture in different ways, playing with colour saturation, adding a bit of strength and impact to certain elements, etc.
You have the basis of a great shot there – you just need to make a few decisions to make it work for you. And, that’s what it’s all about – once YOU like your image. It doesn’t matter whether other people like it or not!
