HMMMMMMMMM . . .
Tempting . . . anyone used one of these at all ever?
http://www.lomography.com/lubitel166+/about
GizzoParticipantMarkKeymasterI’ve had a Lubitel 2 for a little while, bought it from Seoirse which I like.
Have only run 2 rolls through it and its fun.On the lomography site, the price for the 166 seem very very high, I’d assume
that they could be bought on ebay for alot less?ExpresbroParticipantThere’s actually a couple in the For Sale forum here:
https://www.photographyireland.net/viewtopic.php?t=27273
Alsp I’ve been thinking about buying a Medium Format waist Level camera ever since seeing Sinead’s little beaut..And I’ve seen plentyof these for sale on Ebay in mint condition for around the 50 -70 Euro mark. But I think I’m going to save the money and buy something a little more pro like a Mamiya or a Bronica ETRS.
Anyway..go on Alan….you know you want to
davedunneParticipantI’ve never used one of these but I think I would go for one of the originals over this one. The LSI Lubitel 166+ is a Chinese made replica of the Russian LOMO Lubitel 166. The “+” version has a few extras over the original (e.g. I believe they can easily take 35mm) but are a little pricey.
As was said above you can normally find originals on eBay for way cheaper.
aoluainParticipantGuys thanks a million.
Dave I should have read your post sooner, I secured
one [166 B] from e-bay for €48.00 delivered by registered mail !supposedly in perfect working order!
so another chapter in my Lo-Fi travells starts.
Robbie, yea I hear ya there, the pro Tlr’s are very tempting
indeed.Mark, I might be contacting you for some pointers :)
ExpresbroParticipantThat’s not a bad deal at all Alan. Some places charge that for a Holga. Be nice to get a look at that when ya get it :-)
I went ahead and ordered myself a mint condition Bronica 645 ETRS Kit with 75mm 2.8 lens and Waist Level Finder and 120 Back.
Can’t wait to get that little baby either.

GizzoParticipantExpresbroParticipantSorry Gerry..it was a spur of them moment thing… ;-)
Well.ever since I saw Sineads MF Mamiya..then missed out on Seoirse’s …and i couldn’t resist… :-)
We’ll have to organise another film day soon :-)
jessthespringerParticipantLee Frost wrote a really good article about Lubitel a while ago in Black and White Photography magazine.
It was a head to head test with a Hasselblad, he said, even though the Hasselblad was 100 times more expensive,
he wasn’t exactly 100 times better. That seems a good enough price too.
Very nice Alan, health to wear and all that…
And, Robbie, look at you, with your new Bronica!!
We need another day out!
GizzoParticipantcount me in for that ‘another day out’…. but please.
please.
please.
stop mentioning the word ‘hasselblad’thanks.
aoluainParticipantExpresbroParticipantThanks Alan :-)
With shipping it cost €330. Which I think was reasonable enough for a quality MF camera. Has a 3 month warranty and a 7 day return guarantee as well. So I get to give it a good going over when I get it. Or rather someone with more experience of these things has kindly offered to give it the once over to make sure everything is as it should be :-)
Got some money back today so that covered a third of the price anyway…happy days :-)
Now to start stocking up on 120 film. Come to think of it. My last order from 7Dayshop still hasn’t arrived. Bah!!
GizzoParticipantRobbie have you considered developing your own film?
(waiting myself for an order…)
ExpresbroParticipantMost definitely Gerry. Cathal even sent me a Paterson tank to get me started. But I just haven’t got around to picking up the chemicals and stuff and reading up on how to develop yet.
When I dropped in a roll of 120 black and white a few weeks ago, I realised why people learn to develop b/w especially..it has to be sent off and takes over a week or so to get back.
I need to get my skates on.
Maybe a “Learn to develop” meet up is next ;-)
