Really got to grips with Photoshop tonight………at last.

Question is very simple – Before or After???

Did I do too much? Not enough?

    C&C appreciated.
    Thanks

Doesn’t look the sharpest Paul if you don’t mind me saying & the background doesn’t do the subject any favours!
Too blown out on the left hand side of the image.
I’ve had a look at your site & your macro images are nice but your landscapes tend to have the horizon line too central.
I would prefer the first image.

    hi,

i quite like the second one. I really don’t know very much about portraiture in photography though so it depends what you want from the image…

to me it looks quite painterly. i really like the softness in her clothing as it draws attention to her face and it feels very light and dreamy. i think i would leave a bit more of a stronger shadow to the nose, eye and mouth areas to make her face loo a little less flat, just a touch would make it a little more natural (in my opinion)

even without though i think its very well done. nice job!

    Thanks guys for your comments.

To be honest it’s more PP than I’m comfortable with but I just wanted to push it a little and see how far is enough when ‘finishing’ a picture.
In my opinion, good processing should be undetectable, surprised recently to learn that so many great pictures are post processed.

John, you’re right, I had a look over my landscapes and I’ll pay more attention to hitting the ‘thirds’ next time I’m out.

to be honest I’m not into photoshop too much myself, it is art and requires quite a lot of skill to do well but as far as I’m concerned its closer to painting than photography in the strictest sense.

still though, since its so commonly done I’m trying to get to grips with it a little bit and i think you’ve done quite well here apart from the wee bit o’ shading.
