Taken at the Góilín Singers’ club,on the weekend of their 21st birthday bash, daylight still out side, the window light very imposing, took it down as much as possible afterwards in the raw file, brought up the light a little around his face, am interested in the relationship between singer and listener
I have to say I really do like this photo. Its fantastic, I love the expressions on the people listening and its very nicely framed and shaped. Super photo, the music comes through it.
I’ve heard a lot about the Goilin singers club, I heard Christy Moore on the radio recently doing a Frank Harte tribute at the Goilin, it was a recording. Must pop down, though I don’t sing. I believe the motto is, you don;t have to be a good singer, but you have to be a good listener. That comes across superbly in this piece, the listening is great.
Yes, the Goilin singers club is one of dublin’s quirky institutions, they have a guest singer once a month or so, otherwise the typical fri night is peopled by local singers, mostly traditonal type songs , newly composed ballads too,any singer is given space, check out their website
I love this shot too. Normally the subject slap bang in the centre of the frame is a no no, but it works really well here. He’s at the head of a triangle formed by the people on either side of him. Their expressions and being just oof is fantastic. Lovely shot.
