Lunar Eclipse – Totality

The beautiful red glow from the fully eclipsed moon last night:

My longest lens is a 200mm with an added 2x converter plus the 1.5 crop = 600mm if my maths is correct. The wind up on the Hill of Tara made sharp shots nearly impossible!

That is wonderful! I am so jealous mine sucked.

Very good. It looks sharp enough on this size.
I would clone out the three stars.

Brilliant Ken. I’m well impressed with that.
Hope it wasn’t too crowded on Tara last night for you.

    Rob.

    Hi Cian,
    I have the same shot.
You beat me to the post.
    Leave in the stars.
I had no wind down in Navan.
    Wounderful image.
I printed off 5 copies and gave them to the neighbours.

    Regards Neil.

    Brilliant picture! Well done.

Do you mind me asking what settings you used?

I spent about an hour last night using my Canon 350XT here in Dublin, but, couldn’t quite get the sharpness you achieved. I was using my Canon Ultrasonic EF 75-300mm lens, but, it was very difficult to get a steady shot.

Brilliant work Cian, I was at work, unfortunately I couldn’t take a single shot from the eclipse, but somehow I doubt I would be able to get such a quality shot.

    Regards,

Well you kicked my ass on this one.
I tried and failed to get a semi decent shot of this one.

    Outstanding work.

Thanks for the comments and questions. Yes, there was a pretty large crowd on the Hill of Tara, mostly screaming teenie-boppers not in the least interested in the moon!

I liked the three little stars I have to say!

The photo was taken in manual mode with manual focus as results with auto-focus were way off probably because of the lowered illumination of the moon itself and the 2x converter. Exif is below: (subtract one hour from time though!)
