Lunch at the Hard Rock Cafe

Now before things get out of had I know this isn’t street. And I suppose some would think it should be in the food forum. However, I’m not trying to show a photo of food. What I’m trying to get across is the complexity of ordering the simplest meal in the US and the paraphernalia that goes with it. Sot that’s why I think it’s documentary.
Any opinions greatly appreciated.
Lunch at the Hard Rock Café by wirepic, on FlickrpelagicMemberVery nice photo
And I agree. Your shot is not about food but about the way we consume and leave behind what looks like a forgotten battle field.
Food is just a good exemplar of all the “stuff” we consume.
Not sure about the US thing. The Tiger brought it here, not the Yanks.
wirepicParticipantThanks for the feedback Ted.
If you’ve ever been to the US you’ll know what it’s like trying to order food. I was out there once with a bunch of lads and we had a competition to see who could order a starter and main course without being asked any questions. One guy managed to get it down to one question which was; would he like his pepper sauce on the side or on the steak! The rest of us failed dismally. I myself was asked several questions such as, what dressing I’d like with my salad, whether I wanted fries or a baked potato with my steak… you get the picture :)
davedunneParticipantA few years ago my sister was visiting me and once at a local breakfast diner was asked “what sort of toast would you like?” Her answer “normal” confused the waitress.
About the photo, I wonder would it be better if taken from a higher angle. This may remove some of the clutter in the background (e.g the beer taps).
wirepicParticipantThanks Dave.
The angle I like. The taps I could have done without alright. I would have needed to move somewhere else in the bar to get a shot without background clutter. And even then it would have been difficult.
Liam2673ParticipantI would defo crop about 1/6th of the image at the bottom, to just below the rim of the plate, that way you would be less focussed on the chips and napkin, and the verticals of the beer glass, the ketchup and the salt cellar would lead the eye naturally to the roof installation or whatever the hell it is……the mannequins to the right are a nice feature of the image although a little surreal, while the black & white is a good idea, I think it forces you to look beyond the lights to what actually is there, and makes it a more surreal, as you point out.
