HI, Yes, the awful thing happened, its not looking good, cracked frame/case, wires between screen and keyboard VERY visible.
have asked my insurance company for a claims form, i think they want the laptop back and think it will be covered.anyone know if they ask for details what should i provide them with?
I cannot remember when i bought this, but know i bought it in O2 in grafton street dublinits a 17′ or 19′ shall measure!!!!
i am trying to put everything on my hard drive now so that i can save as much as i can.
the laptop is working but i am terrified that one bump will sent it to HELL along with everything else!!!what is the price of a new one by the way, anyone seen a real bargain on this?
xannken, the dope! (well i DO wear a pin saying ‘i need the weed’! :cry:adrianmatthewsParticipantI’d get it to a Repair shop quick,
I use MACSHOP on Merrion Square Nth.
If Johnny Kennyon can’t sort you out then no one can……They should be able to provide you with the info and pricing for a new one.
A.
annkenParticipantHI there and thanks, i rang Mac Shop, he says i have a serious case of ‘terminal’. although its still working, i have downloaded all i can, i think. but i really, really need a new one.
please message sent out to all members here to ask where they have seen real good deals on this laptop in the dublin area or near environs.
quoted 2,500E is a bit beyond me i am afraid. someone/somewhere will have to do a bit better than that, and this yoke is my whole life, sad yes, but true!!!
any suggestions, quick before rigour mortis sets in, is badly needed, probably spelt that wrong, but you know what i mean
annkenjb7Participantin what way is it terminal?
The MBP was the first laptop to have hard drive protection in the event of a fall
in the event that the machine was dropped,
accelerometers would detect the fall,
the heads on the hard drive would park out of the way,
thereby protecting it from damage. So your hard drive and your data should be safe.
Of course, the machine is damaged,
but as you said, it still works-The cheapest way to get a mac is through the Apple refurb store-
http://store.apple.com/ie/browse/home/specialdeals/mac?mco=MTM3NDY2NTI” onclick=”window.open(this.href);return false;
EnzymeParticipantIf your still under warranty, I’d bring it back and say, I’m not happy with the overall look of my laptop and request a replacement straight away young man. Go on hop hop. What do you mean it’s damaged? It came like this. :D
FintanParticipantI had a hard drive failure in a Macbook a few weeks ago, cost was €320 for a data recovery and a new hard disk. From Mactivate in Blanchardstown.
Try the Apple Outlet online for the cheapest ‘new’ MBP. Adverts.ie for second hand

The exact same thing happened me just before Christmas with a new MacbookPro, I only had it a few months. Mactivate fixed it for me under warranty (even though we didn’t buy it from them), the collected and delivered it, and backed up all the data. The only charged me for the delivery/collection and for the back-up. An excellent service and might be worth looking them up.
JB’s advice of a refurb is a good one and would be worth following up, otherwise you won’t get any cheapies or bargains. Apple don’t do sales and their agents tend to be the same. Apple do specials for students if you fall in to that category. Have a look at their educational pricing here in the DCU section http://store.apple.com/ie_aoc_137756″ onclick=”window.open(this.href);return false; to give you an idea. If you know a student then it could be a help.David
