I’m just starting to get into Macro Photography. I already have a Tokina Macro 100mm f2.8D and I was wondering would anyone recommend any other lenses. I also have a 50mm f1.8 II and I was wondering about extension tubes. any and all help would be greatly appriated. Thanks

Hi Trish, welcome to the site-
I reckon there’s not much point in tubes for the 1.8 if you already have a dedicated macro lens-
however, the same tubes on the macro lens could give interesting results-

And tubes on wide angles are interesting too-
I think Kenko probably make the best tubes- allowing the electronics to work-
you can find them on ebay-

do you shoot canon or nikon?

there is a 300mm lens that nikon makes that happens to focus very closely.

i know a few people who use it for macro stuff with some amazing results

    but its not cheap.

extension tubes are a really cheap and easy way to get into macro photography without buying a dedicated macro lens. they are hollow tubes (some relay autofocussing info between lens and body) which sit between the lens and the body and allow for increased magnification….but at a cost (the amount of light hitting the sensor decreases when tubes are used…so you need either a fast lens (50mm f1.8) or a tripod…and preferably both). I got a set of 3 tubes from Jessops at Christmas and I really enjoy shooting with them…Ive just posted up some of my first pics with them on the Macro forum if anyone is interested.
