Macro switch on my lens !!??

Hi All,
I bought a sigma lens a while ago and on it there is a swicth for Macro mode…
I haven’t really noticed any difference….
Am I using it correctly?It’s a Sigma Lens..
Think it’s this one

It is not a true macro lens as it does not offer 1:1 – it simply offers closer focus than would otherwise be the case. Bit like putting on a close-up filter.
Ahh OK.. it must be a very subtle difference on my camera!
Haven’t had much need for it yet anywayThe “Macro Switch” means you can tell the lens to limit its focusing range – to between infinity and about a few metres in front of the lens.
The only difference you will see is that autofocus should be marginally faster as the lens dosent use the full range of focus.
Ironically on Sigma “Macro” lenses the same switch is called “Limit focusing range on/off” which describes this function more clearly!Then only if you want to photograph something close to the lens (within a few cm) switch “macro” to the on position.
the thing abuot it is that the lens is an erm zoom lens so it wont focus on anything that is close anyway! So when I saw macro i must admit to being slightly confused.. esp after seeing all these cool macro shots. but I had my first go of a real macro lens a few weeks ago.. they’re brilliant!
I was told they are good for portraits too..is that right?They are good for portraits because they are sharp and they are fast. But I wouldn’t use it with the wrong subject ie an older lady who doesn’t want the lines to show…. :lol:
