I love taking macro shots but just am’nt sure if my lense is up to it. Is an 18-55 allright for taking basic macro shots? If so are there any other techniques/tips you guys use when taking them? What sort of arpeture, shutterspeed and the rest would you take yours at?

Look on eBay for a Canon 58mm 500D fitting. It will give your 18-55 some enhanced ‘close-up’ abilities.

It sayson all the ebaypages that the 500d is more for 70-300mm lenses? Would it still do for a 18-55?

your kit lens really isnt gonna get you much joy in the macro world. as a start id recommend you get yourself a set (they usualy come in 3’s) of extension tubes (kenko are good and reasonably cheap) and a tripod. this will give you the opportunity to increase the amount of magnification you’ve got at your disposal. i got a set for christmas and have been using them with my nifty fifty and im really happy with some of the shots ive captured (posted some on this forum just now)
