A shot of my sub adult mantis. Just waiting on its last moult to adult and it should have wings to show.
Shot on lemon coloured art paper, f11 – iso 100, 1/250th, studio strobe at 1/8th power in a 40cmx40cm softbox. Tripod and manual focus.
This basically is the same way I would shot a high key portrait with 1 light in my livingroom, saying that, this mantis just loves to pose, when it’s fed up it, it usually stabs my finger and runs of and jumps into the lens hood lol.
Wasn’t to sure about paper colour but it seems to match and lift the subject without loosing it to the background.
    Cheers for looking

What a poser! did he respond well to direction :) Great shot,
I love the background colour not bland but it seems to enhance
the colour of the mantis, does he have a name?

Amazing detail and colour. The pose, as Jim mentioned,
is almost comical, like something from a Pixar production…
