I bet I’ll get loads of posts on this topic.
Has anyone ever taken apart one of the aforementioned lenses with the Copal shutter.
If so how does one hold the shutter leaves and their spacers in position while assembling the two halves of the shutter casing.
Answer one at a time please.
It’s been a while since I’ve been THAT far into a Copal, (these days I mostly just send shutters for cheap, but excellent maintenance to Flutots in California), but I remember that:
a) do ALL dismantling from the front (Although you of course need to turn the shutter over to punch out pins or unscrew the two halves) );
b) put the leaves back in exactly the right sequence to prevent them getting trapped between the next leave and its spacer.
c) A bit like e.g. working on a car engine, or gear box: Label everything, lay out everything in order. (Too late now, hey? :) )
Also check for those tiny bushings (some Copals have them, others don’t) and make sure you don’t loose any.
Anyway, there used to be a website of course that deals with that, but it may not be up any more or you have to sign on, or such….If I remember, or can find the PDF, I’ll post the link.
