Spent ages watching this wren gathering food for chicks yesterday evening. I had no choice but to use flash as she was hiding under a load of bushes, and was very difficult to get near… I’m thinking the direct flash takes from the image… What do ye think? :?:

    Any C + C welcome!

    Cheers,

I think the flash is OK but there’s a peculiar shadow around the wren that isn’t from the flash. Some post image processing overdose maybe?

Well done for getting so close thaough, that’s an achievement in itself.

It’s a pity you had to use the flash. I’ve never gotten that close to a wren even with the hide and camoflag. They want nothing to do with my feeders either. Wel done for getting this close.

Thanks lads, I was waiting a while I can tell ye!

irishwonkafan – I’ve had a quick look back at the raw file – and that shadow is seemingly coming from the flash – I might re-proccess it and see how it turns out although I’m not quite sure what I can do with it. Any tips!?

Here’s another, again flash was used – but this time to fill in the shaded parts under the leaves.

    thanks again,

Fair enough – it was the flash. As far as processing is concerned I don’t have any ideas but maybe others do.

I can see how you got so close now. You flashed her in the second image, she fell, was quite dazed and that’s when you went in for the kill on the first image posted. I must write that one down.

Ahhh ya got me! I had Noely’s squirrel tazer on hand too, just in case the flash wasn’t strong enough ;)

Flash or no flash, it’s a nice capture. I get quite close to them when I’m walking along country roads, but they still look minute in the viewfinder!

Live wriggly things might attract them, but your normal bird food isn’t any good. Apparently meal worms get them interested.

At ?10+ for a small tub, I’m not surprised. :)

Yeah. I don’t buy them either. Maybe we could start a mealworm farm? There must be a way of making the little fellas??

I like it, wrens are so quick they dont stand still for long, so
maybe the flash is a good idea……takes them a few seconds
to recover :) I always thought the wren was Irelands smallest
bird but apparently a Goldcrest is teeny bit smaller, had one in the
garden the other day beats its wings a bit like a hummingbird, but
it was far too quick for me, especially as the camera was still in the
    boot of the car :)
