Manfrotto 190XDB Tripod

I see there is one of these for sale in the Sales section, and I might be interested in this. However, I first wanted to get some opinions from all the pro’s here since I have never used a tripod before.

I currently have a Canon EOS40d with battery grip.
    Sigma 70-300 APO
    and Sigma 17-70

Would this tripod be worthwhile getting? And also, what kind of head should I be getting, What are other good (not too dear) options for a tripod?

I don’t know much about them so advice would be nice.

I’ve been trying to do some macro photography, but I’m also looking in to doing landscapes and other outside work.

    Thanks in advance

actually i have this tripod, with a 486 ball head (not sure on the model, might be wrong).
for your equipment, the tripod is fine, sturdy enough.

concerning the head, my desire, which is fine for you as well, is the 710. 3 way macro specific but also great for landscapes.

ok there you have my 2 cents!!

How much would one of them heads set you back?

sorry Sander, I am really sorry for 2 reasons. First, I don’t understand what you mean by “How much would one of them heads set you back?” my english has still room for improvement.
and then, I was wrong with names. the head is the 410, not 710 as previously said.
in this link (sorry it’s written in italian) you find all the specs
    http://www.macrofotografia.net/index.php/Flash-e-accessori-vari/Recensione-testa-Manfrotto-410.html

the ball head is much cheaper (i paid mine 65 euro + shipment in italy) and easy to use, but not the best for macros.

how much did it set you back basically means how much did it cost you =) and you answered that, I think I’ll just have to start looking at some reviews as well, but the legs are good are they?

i have the 190ProXB, and I am little bit confused about the actual Manfrotto’s catalog.
As far as I can see the tripod is sturdy enough for a normal equipment (I used it with 30D and 70-200), don’t know with bigger lenses (anyone has a 400 to give me to try???).
130e for the legs, and 70e for the head approx. To be honest I can’t tell you any downside. Well maybe you can find other brands with more optionals included (benro as an example).
but for what I do, this tripod is ok. If you need other help, feel free to ask!!!

I can’t comment fully on this tripod. I have the Manfrotto 055B and have used it with a 1D MkIII and 300mm f/2.8 L mounted on it. Totally stable. I have the RC322 head.

never tried a 300/400mm prime on my tripod. my impression is that will be fine with the light version (f4, f5.6) but not reccomended for the big guns such as 300 f2.8 and so on.
055 might be better. little bit more heavy but stable!

    I have a 190, the 055 is a better tripod.
