    I own a D80 and a D200

I use the D80 for travel as its smaller and lighter and takes bang on pictures!

The 40d (body only) would definetly be down your line then PolMac for your line of work with the boosted mp for detail and better AF. But of course, as you said, the lense makes all the difference, the camera just releases a shutter and sets settings… But with all your film kit will you not have to get a whole different set of lenses to suit your digital body?

Yeh, I will have to get a complete new kit. If they did a digital back for a bronica 67 – Wow but they dont…

Belive it or not I dont like zooms unless thay are good quality. I had a Tokina ATX 80-200 f2.8 about 10 years ago, fantastic lens.

what I possibly will do is look at the 20d and buy a Sigma macro lens, wide – angle and whatever else is left over.

CC’s in town have a 20d for 700. may take a look at this. Will keep you posted

    cheers

I actually like the Pentax. I went into a well known city center camera shop who dont stock Pentax, but I wanted a non-biased opinion. What I did get was, a sort of warning that Pentax might go like Minolta…

wooo…. hold your horses there fella. Go like Minolta, what? get bought over by the second biggest electronics manufacturer in the world, Sony (who also supply Nikon with sensors), and build outstanding cameras. mmm that would be awful. Seriously, I’ve used Minolta Dynax 7, 7000 and now the Sony A100 and will purchase the new Sony A700. You won’t find me droolling over a Canon.

Have you considered the multi award winning Sony Alpha A100??

At the end of the day all the cameras you’ve mentioned will produce outstanding results, in the right hands. The camera is only a tool, it won’t produce outstanding results if the photographer is crap. It boils down to what makes you comfortable, what feels good in your hands? Just don’t buy a Canon.

Please don’t be conned by the marketing power of Canon. The 40D is just a 30d (3year old camera) with a bigger screen, don’t don’t do it.

if your budget is 1400yoyo’s, get a D200. It’s an outstanding camera of semi-pro build quality. Nikon have just released the D300 so the used prices of D200’s should go down a little soon. Now, get on to ebay and find yourself a bargain.

Have I mentioned the Canon d40 is just a d30….. and not to get conned by the Canon marketing power.

I tell you what is nice is the Panasonic L1, nice feel and nice lens…

the panasonic L1 is not a camera I know much about, if at all. Before you commit I’d reccommend reviewing the various reviews on http://www.dpreview.com. And also look at what flashguns and lenses are available, because you will most probably require another lens or two.
