Media passes are for those who work for the media. If you want access, then your media outlet should apply for the accreditation for you.

No magic ID card, nor vest will get you in.

Talk to the event organisers, talk to your local papers, etc, and see if anyone needs a photographer.

Make sure you have all your insurances up to date, especially your PL insurance.

so i should just basically ask around and send emails to try get a place.
and what would i need before asking, do i need ID?
for local newspapers, would going to the local free newspapers be worth my while?

Ad ID that says what??? And ID is just a card with your name and photo. It carries no other powers.

More often than not, I show my passport or driving license as ID, since they’re internationally recognised as ID.

Contact any local papers and offer your services. If they want to use your images, they should also be prepared to pay for your images.

Many events/organisations may also ask for proof of insurance, before they give you access. If you’re officially working for a paper or press organisation, check and make sure you are on their insurance, if you don’t have your own policy.
