I’ve been invited to work for a media agency, and was wondering if anyone has any experience on the contract side of things. I have a proposed contract from them, but 80% of it is legal jargon and clauses – any pointers for who could look over it to ensure I’ll not be selling myself short, and to make sure I understand all the implications regarding use rights / territorial limits etc?
Don’t you just love it when people throw legal mumbo-jumbo at you! And to think the people that draw these things up get paid a fortune to do so (no disrespect to Brandyman!). All I can suggest is don’t be pressurised into signing it hastily. Take your time and break it down into manageable chunks and digest the implications of each chunk. Most of it is plain common sense but the way they serve it up always makes it look more complicated than it is.
