Get a wee look at this place they seem to have alot of decent 2nd hand gear
https://secure.ffordes.com/index.htm
jb7ParticipantWell Sinead, I never mentioned tilt lenses for Nikon, that’d be about 4 times your budget-
The older 28mm shift Nikkor I pointed you at went for £155-Unless you can find good information for the lens/camera combo you’re interested in
it would be really useful to try before you buy-
particularly for architecture.http://photo.net/equipment/canon/tilt-shift.adp
thefizzParticipantIf you could stretch your budget, this baby would be excellent. Will also hold its value if you decide to sell it down the line. Its not very often you see this model for sale, especially in mint condition. Its only slightly bigger than your average SLR. I have the 7 model and wouldn’t give it up for any camera.

Thanks Martin, maybe you could pass on the links of the photographers you like?
And, if you don’t mind my asking, how much did your scanner cost?
I hadn’t thought about that…Well Tommy Oshima for one recommend I get a rollei not a hasselblad. He had both and sold the hasselblad and also has used many different cameras, although his taste may not be everyone’s. He is using one in his profile picture.
The camera being sold by thefizz does look nice.My scanner was about EUR 240, which I hope to mitigate by selling my old one. I was quoted 2 Euros per frame for scanning where I get my prints developed which decided everything. Besides cost, it is better to do your own.
jessthespringerParticipantThanks again everyone, for advice, links and suggestions, all very helpful and very much appreciated.
Gizzo – do you use one of those scanners?
Cathal – good link, lots of decently priced stuff, sometimes it’s possible to pick up gear from places like this, cheaper than ebay.
Joseph – well, I guess I got mixed up with tilting and shifting, no surprises there, natural blonde!
That was a very informative link, thank you.fizz – I did see that, very nice, quite a bit over my budget though.
Martin – good link, some great pictures, I’ll be going back there for another look. I’m thinking a lot more about the TLR now too.
Had a lovely Rollei in my hand today, SLR, belonged to one of the students in the college, he actually said he would have preferred
if he had gotten a TLR, said he thought the Rollei was a little overpriced.I was chatting to one of my lecturers about it today, and she said she was hoping to sell her, Mamiya 330S, with 80mm lens, it’s 4 x 4, instead of 6 x 6.
Anyone used one of these?jb7ParticipantUnless you want to use only one type of b/w film, very hard to find,
I’d stay away from 127 cameras-In Darwinian terms, they’re extinct-
jessthespringerParticipant127? Is that film format? 4 x 4?
I’m reading about it on Wikipedia (although, that might not be the best place) says there it takes 120 and 220 film.

Anyone used one of these?Yes, I have used a Mamiya Twin Lens (Mamiya C3) for over 20 years and in a word it is ….brilliant. :D
This camera I have used to take portraits, still life, landscape, seascape the lot. Without a doubt the Mamiya TLR has been for me the most versatile camera I have ever owned.
Btw, the Mamiya 330S and all other Mamiya TLR’s are 6×6 – not 4×4…unless I’m very much mistaken.
Anyway, I am having a service job done on my own C3 (change of felt light traps etc) and may consider selling it at some stage soon, as I now use the Hasselblad so if you are turned on (rather than being turned off) by a TLR I could let it go for a decent price if you don’t want to buy your friend’s TLR in the meantime that is.
Oh, my C3 comes with a black (the latest model) 105mm DS lens which has a depth of field preview facility and aso a spotless prism.
I can post pics if you want. If I get time I will even try to pst up some of the different pics that I took with it.

jb7ParticipantA C330?
I should have looked at the model, but the only thing that registered with me was 4×4…
I think the 330 is 6×6, good camera-
Hardly any of the cameras mentioned here would be any good for your architecture project,
but I guess it’s gone beyond that now-It seems everybody just latched onto the medium format thing,
and forgot about what you might have wanted it for-Which is ok, as long as you don’t-

Cool, thank you, for the information.
She said she would let me have a look at it next week, so I think it would be rude for me to even consider buying yours, for the moment at least.
I’d love to see some pictures you have taken with it though. If you have time to post, that would be great.Joseph – yes, 330S
I’m sure she said 4×4…
The Architecture thing was the thing (that’s too many things) that started me thinking about the whole medium format, thing…
But, obviously, I’d like to use it for other things too, but, no, I haven’t forgot.GizzoParticipantas far as I know the 330 is 6*6…. 120 with a possibility of adapting 35mm….
JTS: the scanner I linked it’s one with a good quality/price ratio….

I think spending 500GBP and basing your requirements for it on one assignment would be stupid.
A 6×6 cameras with no tilt shift would not be ideal for architecture but I don’t think the college expects people to go out and get cameras with tilt shift just for one assignment.
Buying a large format camera I think would also be the wrong choice, walk before you can run, medium format is a step up from 35mm which will take a while to get the hang of. You only have 12 shots instead of 36, its a different mind set, get you head around medium format first for a few years and learn it.If your spending 500GBP get something that you can get use out of long term and will help you walk first and learn.
Get something most importantly that YOU will enjoy using
If YOU want a 6×6 camera and your heart is set on it and square pictures really interest you, thats what you getM

jessthespringerParticipantGizzo – thanks again, much appreciated.
Martin – Yes, it would be daft to spend that much money on equipment for one assignment. It was looking at work from another students Architecture assignment that started me thinking about it.
Lots of students (I might be one of them) will shoot it on 35mm cameras with 50mm lenses, and get by just fine. So I don’t, need, it specific for this project.
I’ve no desire to shoot large format, although, I won’t pass on the chance to play with Zoltans 4×5, but I feel it’s too much. As you say, walk before running and all that…Thank you.

My mistake. Sorry.
TomMemberV500 came with two film holders – 35mm and medium format. The 35mm holder is for two 6-frame strips and the other one is for two frames of 6×6.
