I have a small point and shoot camera which I like to carry in my pocket while I’m out. It’s a Samsung Digimax i6. In the instruction booklet it gives SD/MMC as the media storage for the camera. Does this mean I can use either a Secure Digital card or a Multi Media card? Will any one of these 2 cards do? Also the camera can be used for movie clips and will play MP3’s, can I store MP3 files on both these cards or just the multi media card?
Did a web search and as far as I can tell your camera will take both types of card. Movies, music etc can also be stored on either card (some modern car radios come with an SD card slot for MP3 files).
SD cards and MMC cards have an identical form factor. SD cards seem to be more readily available from retail outlets. They are generally slightly faster than MMC cards and are more durable. One feature that I like about them is that they have a write-protect tab, a bit like floppy disks have, to prevent accidental erasure of the contents. As far as MP3’s are concerned, well, that’s just another digital file and can be stored on pretty much any flash memory just like any other file can.
