Merrion Square in Days gone by…

FreeAndPhotographyIrelandParticipant
Here are a few from the weekend, gives a feel for what Merrion Square may have been like in centuries past..C&C welcome
LoGillParticipantWhat a novelty – was it a film shoot ? or do you have a time machine :D
They are all superb – I really like your conversion
I love 1 and 3 … 3 most of all – looks like Fagan :)
Lorraine
FreeAndPhotographyIrelandParticipantIll admit it, i have a time machine
Nah, just happened to be lucky enough to be parking in Merrion Square on Sunday and they were filming an episode of Sherlock Holmes for the BBC. They had a smoke machine which made it awful for taking pictures but I was lucky enough to get these in between blasts of smoke. I dont envy the life of an actor, i have never seen a more bored looking group of people in my life. I was only there a few minutes and i was starting to age…
paperdollParticipantThese are fab…especially love number 3. Just goes to show, you should always have the camera with you, you never know what you’ll see!
RobMemberYou jammy sod! How lucky can you get. Marvellous set of images with tons of potential. From a compositional point of view, numbers one and three really stand out for me, particularly the DOF in number three. The half hidden faces in images two and four take a little away, though not much, from those images. Number five is a bit of an odd one though, and I’m not entirely sure why. I don’t know if this is my least favourite or if it has the potential to be the outright winner in this set, and all on account of the actress seated to the right of frame and staring straight into your lens; her expression is angelic, sublime, and completely captivating. If this is a cropped version it might be worth revisiting the original image and allowing a tiny bit more foreground and a little more to the left of frame. I could imagine this image with a slightly grainier, sepia-toned finish and perhaps some vignetting to give it a more authentic ‘aged’ feel.
All in all I’m definitely impressed with this set of images, and I wish I had the same luck (and the same skill level come to think of it).
Rob.
FreeAndPhotographyIrelandParticipantThanks Paperdoll, Rob for the comments..
I was hoping someone would notice number 5 like you did Rob, everyone seems to like number 3 but 5 is my favourite for the reasons you have detailed. There was alot going on when i took that photo and nobody took any notice of me except the woman on the right, thats what i like about it rather than anything technical but thats just me…
As for the potential of this set i definitely plan to come back to them when i get a chance and give a good shot at making them look authentic and from the period, could help improve the PS skills too. I’ll definitely post any updates when i get aound to it. Thanks again..
FlipflipParticipantWow, jammy timing!!
My favourites are 3 and 4. 3 moreso I think.
That said, its a great set that I’d be well proud of if I had taken em!
Well done.
