I was delighted to read recently that people who like classical music
and people who like heavy rock music generally have higher IQs than
the average. As a lover of AC/DC, Motorhead, Ozzy, Mozart, Beethoven
and Saint-saens I reckon I must be right up there.

It makes sense when you think of it. We like people who write their own music and can play an instrument and sing in different styles (Robert Plant and Brian Johnson spring to mind here) when you think of the likes of Boyzone, Westlife etc, sing covers or have someone else write songs for them and cannot play an instrument. So creators, Innovators and people with genuine talent are appreciated by people with a decent IQ as opposed to bland, unimaginative “dancers” who play(sorry, I’ll correct myself here) sing bland unimaginative songs or just regurgitate talented peoples work……. :x

Good theory, but why don’t I like The Beatles?

Have you heard everything or even most of what the Beatles have written ? Its quite a sweeping statement to make of an extremely prolific and experimental band.

I’m in trouble so as I don’t like metal or classical…..

how does that Beatles tune go? da da da, da da dum dum da….if there’s anything that you want…

that ain’t rocket science I guess.

(But what about the White Album!!!!! When I get to the bottom I go back to the top and…..oh dear….)…

And I would be a Beatles fan, in that I could rattle off the lyrics to at least 50 of their songs….though against that, I’d rarely get their albums out anymore.

Being honest, there’s very little pop/rock music that i might consider intelligent ……they may have a lot of other attributes, but intelligence ain’t one of them.

    Fleet Foxes……thats a clever record.

It doesn’t have to be intelligent FFS… once you can tap your feet, mosh and/or air guitar, drive along with your Uzi or tip toe around in a circle with a strange girl whilst having your hand on her arse then job done right?

That’s a fair point, and I haven’t heard all their work I’m sure. However,
there’s a helluva lot of music out there and when I hear something I like
I look for more by the same people; that’s the way it goes. If I read a book
I like, I buy more by that author; if I read one that’s keek I avoid him/her for
    ever.
