This was my first time taking photo’s at a football game. I’m happy enough with this lot but I’ve a long way to go before I get decent shots. :) Next on the agenda is a Friday night game under lights.

Comments most welcome as I’d love to get better at this type of photography.

In my opinion, there’s nothing of interest in your images. There is only one shot with peak action, but you can’t really see their faces.

The rest are .. well .. no major interest in them.

Have a look on my website for tips on sports photography. It may help guide you.

Hope my comments don’t sound harsh.

Your comments sound very harsh Paul :( but I guess I need them if I’m going to improve at this type of photography. I found it difficult to follow the action / the ball but I’m sure with practice I can improve.

I’ve always found football the hardest to photograph. The ball moves all over the place and it’s not easy to follow.

You need to anticipate action. You need to get ahead of the ball, which is not easy.

Try only shooting what happens beside you.

I find the expressions on faces of players in local football just brilliant. They are so full of emotion.

Shoot in short burts of frames. One or two before the ball gets there. That way, you should be able to get a frame with the ball just there.

Don’t be afraid to crop down the photo, to focus in on the action.

Most importantly – keep at it. Keep trying. Take lots of picts.

    Thanks for the advice Paul.
