Mizen Head, Co. Cork (new version added)

Hi Brian. What a rugged scene. I’ve never been there and always wondered where it was (from listening to the weather forcast). Looking at this shot, I’m a little confused as to which way (direction) the rocks on the cliffs are going as they seem to overlap. I think I would have included more of the sky as the grey in the clouds compliment the grey in the rocks. I also might have zoomed in more on the building as there is a nice contrasting colour in that too. These are only my ideas though, I think you have caught a good scene in this shot.
TompixBandonMemberBrian,
It’s a fine illustration of glacial activity.
It strikes me that it might work well converted to grey and some contrast added.
Regards.aoluainParticipantThat is dramatic Brian,
Serious scene there with a great sense of scale.
Great clarity too.

was down that way myself earlier in the year,
is the scaffold still up around the bridge?
You’ve managed to make the most out of what looks like a pretty grey day.BrianParticipantThanks all for the comments. Flynny, yes the scaffolding is still there on the bridge, which is a pity. Was hoping to get a shot of it.
I’ve tried a square crop here with slightly different processing. I’d really like to know which version ye prefer, or whatever combination of crop and processing.AedanCParticipantIn my humble opinion the second is the better one, the house is a bit lost in the first one.
I was down there myself the week before last, spectacular place.

DeeboParticipantNice shots and what a cracking rugged location. Whats the story about the house on top?
Deehotjohn01ParticipantsuspectmonkeyMemberSecond shot for me. In the first image I think it lacked some depth on the far right/middle of the frame between the rocks, probably due to the processing. The second shot removes this part of the image and really highlights the house perched on the top, makes for a sensational image.
BrianParticipantThanks again guys! Deebo, I’m not sure what the story with the house is to be honest. First of all I don’t think it’s a house. My best guess is that it was used for winching up building equipment to build the nearby lighthouse buildings. There is a drop straight down into an inlet and I’m guessing stuff was raised up from boats directly underneath. It’s dangerously close to the edge though!
5faytheParticipantHi Brian,
I think both images are good.
The texture of the rockface in these images is very interesting and
you have captured it very well. The building is a little small in #1 but I find the RHS of the rock
structure very interesting viewing. The building has more prominence in #2 but the interesting (for me) RHS
is lost. The building looks maybe like it would make an interesting subject in itself.
Cheers.
John.

Thanks John,
I know what you are saying about the RHS, it’s an interesting part of the photo alright. I’m having trouble deciding between the two versions. I kind of wish I’d taken some shots of the building with a longer lens now!
