Playing with off camera gelled flash mixed with ambient, and my son’s cool new runners :) . Appreciate your comments.
miki gParticipantHiJason.
I don’t see a lot of these type of shots on the site and I wouldn’t be qualified to give constructive comments which would help, but I find the reflection a bit off putting. There appears to be a sort of halo in the reflection, but not in the shoes. Could be my eyes are tired though. :D Well doneJMac-2006ParticipantThanks MikiG
I think the reflection is doubling due to the thickness of the glass – well that’s my guess anyhow. Thanks for taking time to comment – newbie to this off camera flash stuff and flash in general
shutterbugParticipantI find the reflection a bit distracting also, maybe because it is not the whole reflection?
also if it was a darker background they might have stood out more, I can see this on a
shiny black (to get the reflection) maybe try something black underneath the glass? Good
effort though and well done for trying something different.PixelleMemberCool runners.
The tag distracts, perhaps the logo would be better positioned elsewhere, particularly as it conceals part of the object being venerated. :)JMac-2006ParticipantThanks Jenny – funny i had black card under the glass I think i need to get a large shiny black tile or use flash only instead of ambient mainly mixed with flash – can’t think how else to avoid the double reflection – deliberately didnt include whole reflection as i reckoned it’d be too symmetrical
Thanks Pixelle – had thought about the tag alright – little chap still hasn’t worn the runners so might have a rework before he does
eddie65ParticipantI like it you done well it is as you say an advert and it is as good if not better than some you would see in the shops
JMac-2006ParticipantThanks Eddie, thats a great compliment – if i can get the reflection sorted maybe i’ll send to Puma and wait for the offers to roll in :D or maybe go all out with a pair of Nike

I would go along with that also! very convincing! well done
cuig06ParticipantHi
Good effort but imo it’s not great. The label should not be there. The runners are white so try shoot white on black. As mentioned there is too much reflection. And shoot one runner instead of 2. And finally you should light each part of the runner separately and put it all together in photoshop. Thats what I’d do anyway.
Over all good job but needs a lot of improvement.
JMac-2006Participantappreciate your input,
the runners are white so why shoot on black is the obvious question? the image was more about an off camera lighting exercise – agree the double reflection from glass thickness could be improved by using shiny surface rather than glass. the composition with two runners was more pleasing to me than one runner on its own.
I myself am not too interested in lighting for PS to solve, more interested in creating images and learning to light in camera myself.
Anyhow i look forward to seeing more posts from you and a few of your images.
