Mojo is gone
-
cathaldParticipant
I seem to have lost my photography mojo
I just couldn’t be assed to go out and take photos
I started a 365 project to try and give me a push but soon got pissed off
I have all the darkroom gear covered up as i have no real interest in it
somebody give me a kick in the ass pleaseCathal
The ChairmanMemberI’ll keep posting ‘hyper-real’ HDRs until you show me a good old-fashioned shot :D
MartinOCParticipantI lost my mojo completely last year but I feel its come back now.
What I did was set a specific project for myself (still on-going), which doesn’t require so much creativity. I decided I didn’t need to be take cool or flickr-fashionable photos, just plod along with more technical issues.
Its changing a bit as I go along, but I do hope to put it together in a blurb book or two.365 suits some people but I don’t think it would suit me, it forces a person to be creative everyday. The ‘forcing’ would kill any creativity I have.
I’d say think about making a blurb book, do something straightforward, something documentary that interests you.
The mojo is a strayed dog that comes back by itself.Martin
nfl-fanParticipantMojo comes and goes MUFC.
The old mindset can change. Personally the quest for publically accepted ‘good’ photos has gone… ‘personally satifying’ photos now interest me more.
I’m definetly not the type who would be driven by a project or a competition… others differ… I just wake up and go with the flow… don’t like terms, conditions, themes, you must, you have to, completed by, submitted by… etc.
I spend 2 hours every weekend (weather permitting) taking photos of the birds. The same birds on the same branches. I take lots of photos of the young lad too. I’m sure people looking at my Flickr groan sometimes… but it makes me happy… so what more can I ask for?
I noticed a serious drop off in your photography since your compadre, ‘The Arrow’, took a sabbatical… shame, y’is wos a good combo.
Free your mind Donnelly… leave the camera packed away for a couple of months… when you come back to it you might find that you missed her.
cathaldParticipantI think one of the reasons was I was working for the paper and getting a few quid for it
and it kinda put me off a bit,so perhaps when now I get back to it as a ”hobby” things might changeMartinParticipantI think Martin and the NFL made very good points
Im at it for years, have got bored every now and again but always come back to it…
Martins idea of creating a Blurb book is good. I’m doing one at the moment, having great fun and keeps me busy
NFL’s idea of going with the flow is a good one also, dont put yourself under pressure to take shots, if I dont want to take shots I dont take them…
Its always dangerous getting an income from a hobby like you did with the paper, turns the hobby into a job and can lead to you not enjoying the hobby, for this reason I don’t sell prints just do print swaps with people….
Just chill out, dont put yourself under pressure to take shots, keep a camera in the car anyhow though…. Id try buying a few books also of photographers you like. I find these great for motivating me to get snapping sometimes
Anyhow over and out
M
SPARKSMemberFor me personally, if what I am photographing doesnt push my own buttons then I dont enjoy it anymore.
It is always a great kick if other people like what I do but I really dont care as long as I enjoyed getting the shot and like the result.stcstcMembercome over to glandalogh and i will chase ya round with a gun making sure your taking pictures

I dont mind dodging bullets Steve as I was brought up between the bogside and creggan during the troubles
Its that big stick you keep threating people with that I am afraid of :D :DstcstcMembermartinkingphotosParticipantHi Cathal
I can relate to this.Try picking an aspect of your photography that you are NOT particularly happy with (say Composition), do a bit of
research and get some tips on how to improve it and then go out and try out these tips. If you don’t get great
shots so what, you are only practicing, but at least you are out taking photos and it will soon improve.
However if you do get one or two good ones as a result of trying something new you’ll feel great about it
and the mojo will be back before you know it.Martin
shutterbugParticipantDont despair Cathald, it happens to us all, I havent picked up a camera much since
Christmas but it will get better when the weather does, even snow can get boring after
a while. As has been said dont force the issue, do it when you are good and ready, go
somewhere that you loved taking photographs and leave the camera at home, guarentee
you will “miss” a great shot :)ossie13ParticipantCathal it happens to the best of them, been a bit like that since before Xmas, haven’t picked up the camera in weeks, but I know it’s just a phase and will be back clicking sooner or later……….
Keep the head up Buddy………..always the Mournes to look forward too….
Cheers Steve
