  • Just want to take the opportunity to thank everyone for the replies, I really do appreciate the honesty even if the truth can at times be hard to swallow!

Damien, thank you for your comments, its given me a lot to consider. I will hold my hands up and say that this is all very new to me, I’ve only a few events under my belt and I’m sure like many people before me I’ve jumped in with only a scant idea of what business and marketing skills are required.

As for the feedback on the actual photos, I will take it all on board and give it consideration prior to the next event. To be honest most of the photos I’ve been looking at from other event photographers surround similar local events but it would do me no harm at all to take a look at other event photographers work and see how I can apply those principles to improve what I’m doing.

Mind you, I might have to put the price up then ;)

What will the guy who complained about your prices now, say when you get top notch and really charge alot – the guy will drop dead with heart failure at the thought off spending a tenner on a photo.

You said that your photos are very similiar to other event photographers and that could be part of the problem. Getting shots which stand out in some way from the norm will make you stand out from the countless other photographers shooting the same thing. If you can create an individual style for your photos I believe you would have a better chance of selling them and getting the asking price for them. It may mean spending some money on new equipment, tuition etc to develop your style. Try different shooting angles etc. Ask people (not friends as they will not want to offend) for their opinions on the different techniques that you try. Soon you will find a style that people will tend to prefer (maybe not everyone), but stick to that technique and shooting style for a while and see how it goes. Good luck
