Monitor matching to my printer

Just bought a brand new spanking 24″ Dell U2 410 f ( Hight contrast, ultra sharp….all the bells and whistles).

I also have an Epson 3880.

I tried to calibrate the monitor with the spyderpro2.2 but I just get a yucky yellow cast and the prints are dull.

I rang Dell. It was like the movie ‘Trains, Planes and Automobiles’. Just sent from one department to the next until eventually I was cut off.

My computer is a Dell XPS laptop.

Any advice ?

Calibrate your monitor
Make sure your using the correct profile for your printer and paper
Make sure your using Epson ink not some 3rd party cheap stuff

Thanks Martin,

Calibrated monitor and profile correct for paper I am using.

Epson ink only being used.

I printed photo last night which was fine then adjusted the image on my monitor with its settings to make it look half decent. I am having to use those settings for further prints but I am sure this is certainly not correct.

What to do next ? :(

i assume your using a profile downloaded for the printer?

calibrate your monitor as you would

in photoshop choose photoshop manages colour, and then choose the profile there for the paper and ink combination

then in the epson driver make sure you first have chosen the recommended paper settings

then make sure colour management in the driver is turned off

the other thing to do is make sure the rendering intent is correct, i would suggest perceptual for most photos

also in click the show paper white and gamut warning. this will give you ideas of anywhere thats outside of the gamut fo the paper

Hi,

Are you double profiling – eg: having Photoshop Manage the Colours and having the printer driver also manage the colours ? It should be either one or the other depending on what you are doing….

When you finished doing the monitor calibration – did you notice a difference before and after ? I am just wondering if the newly created profile is being loaded….

The Epson 3880 printer was purchased from and was setup by Sheldon Long and is giving fine prints however he wont help me with the Monitor as I didnt buy it from him !!

Up until I got the monitor I was printing from the image on the laptop. Even though the image on the laptop is awful I got accustomed to the awfulness and was able to judge what awful image was going to give me a lovely print. But sometimes it took a few prints to get it right thats why I got the monitor.
The image on the monitor after calibrating is brighter and has a slight yellow cast compared to the print.

Do I have a faulty monitor ? ( yet again from Dell )

I did a quick lookup on the internet and found the following:

It appears that other people are reporting a similar issue…..

Does this issue only manifest itself whilst you are in photoshop or is there always a yellow cast ?

tried that but there was no U2 4210 in the profile.

Anyway why should I have to go thru all of this having spent €600 on a monitor with an appalling back up service.

They sent the 2 nd monitor out to me with a similar tint problem and have never come back for the 1st one….so i have 2 monitors that dont work .

I think I will just get a refund.
