Monument Valley, County Sligo (dial-up warning)
-
Madra RuaParticipant
I have been asked to post this by a member of this photo community who should remain unnamed.
Podge and myself took a detour to Ben Bulben and Glencar when coming back from Ballyshannon last weekend – and hit good weather!
What a great mountain! It looks different everytime you look at it. Take some photos, drive 200 metres: competely different view! This is a stiched panorama made from 10 portrait format shots. The whole lot is over 13,000 pixel wide!
I know there’s some blown sky. If I have a lot of time some day I might try to fix that
(sorry about the size – but it looks crap small…)RobMemberDon’t apologise for the size Hauke; it’s nice to see these panoramic shots at a half
decent size to appreciate them. Nicely framed image, but definitely needs a little more
work in spots. You seem to have a bit of a halo too along the right hand slope…Rob.

Sorry Rob, but I can’t see the halo.
There shouldn’t really be one anyway.
Could it simply be the sunlight?nfl-fanParticipantThis is fantastic…
The greens and blues really pop… such a vibrant image…
And such a well defined image… panos often get lost with too much small detail but this one jumps right out at you.

MartinOCParticipantNice landscape, very impressive.
It is indeed a different view to any I’ve seen of the same mountain.I can’t see the halo on my screen, but I’m only on a laptop.

snaphappyMemberwow as usual hauke did you use a pano tripod head cos its flawless although known your aproach you prob handheld it lol you went to the aran islands on our pi trip without a tripod and still nailed your landscapes

I agree,
I am a big fan of Panoramas and posting them here doesnt do them justice but this is definately a “MONUMENT”
Brilliant.
I kind of see what rob sees, did you use shadow/highlights in photoshop, a little too much and you get a kind of HALO.
again brilliant shot hauke.
AlanssheridanMemberHi Hauke,
Really like this one. I agree with the other posts, blues and greens are great plus brilliant job in the pano.
BTW what software do you use to frame the shot?
Madra RuaParticipantThanks everyone.
We found a little lane that brought us right up to the foot of mountain – and, boy, it was breathtaking to be there!
I always loved this mountain and have a few more from that day from different angles and might post them as well.

No PS here, some level adjustment and curves… maybe it’s the simple sharpening in IrfanView.

Paint Shop Pro X, I find it much more intuitive to use than PS
DeeboParticipantThis is a superb shot, love it. The pano’s we see do sometimes lack detail but this is great and vibrant
Great workLudaParticipantMadra Rua wrote:

This is something that I’ve wondered how to correct. How do you rescue blown highlights – I thought it was “unrescuable” ( <--- new word ) And it’s a really nice shot BTW!! :)

The individual shots of the pano have all been taken in RAW format.
So I can stop down 2 stops in the processing and there is plenty of lovely detail there.
The problem then is to blend together the current foreground with the darker sky.
Normally that is easy enough, but with a stiched pano it’s a different story. An alternative would be to do a pseudo-HDR from the RAWs.
I.e. create 3, 4 or 5 different exposed panoramas and blend them together with a suitable software.jessthespringerParticipantVery good Hauke, I’ve always loved this place too but have always admired from afar so it’s nice to see this. Did you go to the top by any chance?
Sinead.

Not this time, no. But I hiked from Glencar to the top of Ben Bulben some years back.
One of the best walks I have evr done. The weather got better by the miute and at every turn there were new views.
When we reached the top we could see as far as Errigal in North Donegal.
