Moonlight on the 18th
-
FajitasParticipant
Went out for some more night photography last night, ended up getting stranded 3 hours away from my house because the taxi’s went on strike!
This was one of my favourite shots from the night, and made having 2 hours sleep before work worth while! :)
It was a 1111 second exposure, at f/8, 100iso.
Post processing: Dodge/burn, colour balance, cropping and sin ?!
Let me know what you think!
AliParticipantFajitasParticipantMarkKeymastershrapnelMemberFajitasParticipantThanks! That was a Maglite!
My friend was using it to focus on the hole, and I told him to leave it there for the first minute! Worked out nicely!
nolongerParticipantAgreed… the “light painting” of the hole is gorgeous. Likewise the colour of the sky. And I presume that was 3 hours’ walk, not 3 hours in a cab?? :)
jlangParticipantHow did you decide to leave the shutter for 1111 seconds? Light meter and calculator or trial and error or was this the second go after 1023 wasn’t enough time?
Actually, I’m surprised the shot isn’t way overexposed after that time at f/8 with the moon lighting the scene – did you also have a neutral filter on or some other way to limit the light? I’ve seen some great long exposure shots using neutral filters on chromasia and the like.
FajitasParticipantLol, yup 3 hours walk, the bloody taxi’s were on strike!!!
The only real source of light was the moon, and I’m pretty good at guessing exposures. Light meters ain’t up to much when you’re exposing for that long, in that light!
And yup…Good old trial and error!
No filters used, was gonna use a polarizer for the craic, but gonna save that for the next time and put it on a 30 minute exposure! :D
Must check out some other filters…
gerardkParticipantI think the maglite adds a lot to it – I love the star trails too. Great picture there.
