Not technically a landscape, more a moonscape! Thought it was full last night but in fact it is
not full till 4.52am tomorrow.

very nice SB. A bit of sharpening would perfect. Are you shooting in RAW?. What filter did you use?

Yes I agree with Ras but it does need some sharping and maybe a boast in contrast.

Thanks guys, no filters, sharpening…never do just clarity! Yes use RAW all the time now,
Settings were f22 1/60s ISO 200, nikon D600 with 300mm + 2x converter, wobbly tripod
Mirror lock up, remote release.

Jenny, I don’t a lot about shooting the moon but I would have that f8 with a faster shutter speed would give you sharper results. I’m heading out early tomorrow so if it’s still bright enough I might have a go.

Nice result Jenny. Personally,I’ve always found the full moon dissapointing & lacking any detail in the crators due to no shadows & this tends to make it look soft, even when perfectly focused.

Thanks miki, yes I know what you mean probably half or even crescent brings
Out much more detail.

Hi Jenny,

Nice shot.

It’s VERY difficult to get any detail in shots of the Full (or nearly full) Moon.

Due to the facts that it’s so bright and there are no shadows to provide contrast on the features.

Often the great shots withj detail you see of The Moon are composites/mosaics of shots taken at different phases. That’s not to say that decent shots can’t be got in one capture.

Here’s one I took ages ago of a roughly half moon.

You’ll see that there is more detail the further you get away from the Sun’s direct light on the surface.

Haven’t had the time to do much Astro photography for ages but you, Rita, miki and others on this site are inspiring me to find some time!

That is a super shot Peter, thanks for looking and taking the time to
comment! I am hoping that the next new moon which falls on the 30th
Jan will be a nice clear night as I really want to do some star photography,
I am currently looking for a good spot with little or no light pollution.

Nice shot of the moon there.

I have been doing a bit of night photography with a friend and it can get a bit addictive at the same time.

I have to agree and trying to get a place with little light pollution and clear skies are hard or getting something interesting to go with the night sky and stars. I have a photo up in this section as well of the stars above trees.
