Seen as there have been so many from the zoo in here in the last few weeks I thought i would post a few I took last year… What do ye think…
20D and 300 F4 IS
1/160s f6.3
20D and 300 F4 IS
1/400s f5
20D and 300 F4 IS
1/200s f5God I would love to photograph any of these in the wild (especially the snowy owl) as its so annoying having to shoot through glass or wire…. I sometimes wish the Dublin Zoo people would do some type of open day for photographers where we could get closer/higher to avoid obstructions etc…. could be a bit dangerous I supose…. Ahhhh keep dreaming

TraceyMemberLove the one of the lions. The way the female is in focus & the male is behind, yet you can still see their scars. They look like a proud comfortable couple. It really does speak volumes & you want to hear their stories. Stunning. :)
SodafarlMemberRich brilliant set if I had to choose it would be the chimps it has so much going for it my wee fingers would be tired typing. BRILLIANT.

If there is an open day I would go and stand behind Rodcunha as if anyone stands a chance its him.   (compliment by the way)
SodaExpresbroParticipantBrilliant shots Ritchie. Makes me want to throw my camera away and give up right now!! (Okay..just kidding about that bit).
All the shots are great..but the chimp one is extra special….
Really really impressed.

8)richiehatchMemberThanks guys…. I just wish the baby chimp could have shown some of its face to me…! Little fecker had his head stuck in its mothers chest for about 10 mins… then it hopped down and ran off… typical…!
Thanks again
Richie
AliParticipantThese are all amazing Richie. :D I especially like the composition in the first two (especially the negative space in the second). Very inspiring :).
positronMemberExcellent photos Richie! Love the second one, the wrinkles and that look!
Madra RuaParticipantGreat photos Richie!
My preference would be for the lions and the owl.
Great intense expression in the lion’s faces (pity the male’s right eye is missing in the shot).
I’m a big owl fan, so that explains why I like the last.I also quite like the chimps, especially the mothers face.
The brown of her eyes stands out very subtly.
But, as you have said, I really miss to be able to see more of ‘the little fecker’s’ face.
Though his pink ears and brow ridges are quite cute :wink:Ali wrote:

Ali, What is negative space? (nothing to do with dark matter, I suppose?)
joe_elwayParticipantThe Lion shot is cool. Would be great if you had a clear view of both their eyes … following Ali’s suggestion from my shots last week …. send your assistant in their to move them about :-) Seriously, in this lark, you take what you’re given and try to make the most of it and that’s exactly what you did.
That Chimp shot is special. Print and frame that shot this week. It deserves a place on your wall. I’m quite jealous of that one. I’ve been wanting a shot like that for ages and haven’t come close. Not having the babies face is not a problem. For me, this is all about the expression on the mother’s face. You could tell me you shot this in Gombe River and I’d believe you.
The owl is too blown out for me.

No wonder people don’t take me seriously :) Thank god.
Hey Madra, negative space refers to the space around the subject – compositional technique used by alot of the arts. Only quick example i can think of is if you have a photo of a person walking on a street – Having the negative space infront of them might suggest that there going somewhere – having it behind them will suggest coming from somewhere. Have a google, i think it’s something worth reading, and a technique allinthemind uses quite a bit.
RobMemberAllow me to add my compliments Richie.
Superb shots, each and every one.Rob.
