More Mongolia..

Liam2673Participant
A few more from the same roll of Mongolia: pls note than in our eagerness to see the finished product we got the film developed in Ulan Bator (the capital city) and the development was poor….so not really looking for a critique, the flaws are too obvious. Anyway, nonetheless they are of ethnographical interest, if thats the right word….
they are basically a collection of homesteads, who we stayed with over there.First family
this shot includes the family yurt
Inside the Yurt, the granny was quite a glamouros lady I thought, with her grandchild. Note on the top right handside the pieces of dried cheese hanging from the roof of the yurt. It was very hard, took about 5 minutes of chewing to soften it down. Basically a food store for the winter, they would eat 3 or 4 of these a day through the winter.
Second family
A feature of Mongolian landscape is that the horizon is usually several miles away….and the sky seems much bigger. I like this photo myself.
mervifwdcParticipantLooks like an amazing trip, Great to see and understand more about people from places like this. Love the cheese story. All home made I’m sure?
Merv.
Liam2673ParticipantMikkaParticipantI could never tire of looking at your photo’s of Mongolia. I see these more as Documentary than Travel because they show us a way of life without many of the trappings that we rely so heavily upon yet most of your subjects always manage to have a smile. The Granny and child shot is great…………Mikka
Liam2673ParticipantThank you. I have a lot more from Mongolia on my gallery on this site if you want to see them.
Re trappings, we stayed in this tent for the night, the baby had just the one toy, the little yellow duck hanging over his head. I appreciate it more now since I have a young son about the same age.
The second photo I wasn’t going to post, I know the horizon is way out etc, but my defense as always is that even if its not good, at least I hope its interesting.
MikkaParticipantThe second photo of the old woman on the DIY raft is great (to me). It shows the ingenuity of those people and the way they improvised with the materials available to carry on with their day to day life.
Re your doubts about posting this shot, Photography is not just about perfect horizons/contrast/saturation/dof it is also a means to record events/life etc. You probably took this because at the time it was pleasing to your eye and I like it because it is interesting and pleasing to my eye though others might not think it so because of it’s “imperfections”.
Thank you for sharing what must have been a most interesting journey…………Mikka
