#3 rocks. Love it. Pin sharp, action and you get a sense of height. You should post them over on motocross.ie. The riders love seeing their photos. Execllent colletion. The last one is the weak one of the litter … bike is too small in frame & too much foreground.
Panning – I find the best location in Ferns is at the curve before the bikes come back towards the start … you can walk right up from the car park to it. There’s a stretch there were the ropes aren’t in the way (too much) and you have nothing behind the bikes.
Here’s how I set up my 40D:
– Multi point AF
– AI Servo AF
– F8
– Around 1/80th second shutter speed.
– Adjust ISO to get to 1/80th shutter speed or reduce aperture more.
– IS on lens set to mode 2.It’s all about your stance, smooth movenet and tracking the subject with AF on the the subject after that. It helps to use the * button to keep AF on all of the time. Older cameras like the 350D, 400D and the 30D can use the * button for AF by enabling custom function 4-1.
I didn’t make it on Saturday due to work. Beautiful light tho as we can see above. I did make it on Sunday and met up with some of the Wexford Camera Club lads including Pat. I haven’t had a chance to put the photos on the laptop yet. Had to get straight back to work when I got back to the house and I’m still at it now.
nfl-fanParticipantThanks to everyone for their feedback and additional thanks to Aidan for the extra info there which I’m sure will aid me and anyone else thinking about giving this a try.
Yeah, agree about the last one… I don’t think the other 6 do the dust any justice so I put this one in solely to demonstrate the crazy conditions on Saturday, although Wonka has already put in a “dust classic” in his set.
I’d highly recommend giving this a try… it’s certainly something different… not something I had the slightest of interest in before hand but I really did enjoy it.
ps. Aidan: Do you ever stop working?
MartinParticipant2nd for me. Like the colours in it and it has a different feel to it than the normal bike shots you see posted. The shadow is great and perfectly framed. well done

These days? Very rarely. Only those all too brief moments when I can escape with the camera. My last post-work-project deadline is this week. Then I’ve some studying to do and I’ve a presentation to prepare for in a couple of weeks.
Oh – next event in Ferns is 17th/18th of May. I _might_ be able to escape to Gormonstown in north Dublin next weekend … will see how things go work-wise.
