Ok took my flash outside today to try for some more inflight shots and these are my results, one flash setup for where the birds flight path to the feeders are with camera in full manual and lens prefocused just of the feeder.
The it was just down to fine tunning the focus and timming of the shutter.
Will be giving it ago again shortly but this time with a flash to light the backround also.
Heaven forbid we might get a bright day and i can forget using the flash. lol doubt it..
Lovely, fantastic images. I think you may have inspired many others to try this.
Regarding losing the flash altogether on a sunny day (bearing in mind I’ve never tried this and talk out of my hat most of the time!), I understood this technique used a not nescessarily fast shutter speed, but instead used the really tiny duration of the flash to freeze the action? As said already, a run down of your set up/f stop/shutter time/advice would be very interesting and appreciated.
Very original shots..to me anyway. Brilliantly executed and finished.
I don’t ever recall seeing shots quite like this of this kind of bird before, at least not on here. Very eye catching indeed and certainly on a par with your macro/insect shots.
