This is my first attempt at trying to take shots of motorbikes. Found it difficult as i had to keep behind the rope at all times:-(

    Taken with my 24-85 3.5-4.5 and the 70-200 2.8VR

    Any C+C would be great

Good shots for a first attempt no 4 and 7 give agreat sense of action with no 7 being
my favourite excellent timing with no 33 hitting the dirt.

    Nice set Martin.

Oddly enough, the more I look at motorsport images, the more
they seem hackneyed and predictable, and for me at least, not
very interesting. No reflection on some of the excellent motorsport
shooters here on PI. It’s a skill I don’t reckon I’ll ever master.
So, with this in mind, I’d have to go for numbers one and five.
Five, because it’s a little different than anything I was expecting,
and one because it just looks utterly bizarre… ;)

    First, for me, number 4,
for the action and competition of it-

The last one, because it looks sore, and it isn’t me-
though I’ve been in that position a few times,
and its really quite strange to see the world travelling so fast just an inch away from your eye-

    And one, for Rob’s reason.

In general, I’d agree with Rob’s comments,
though that doesn’t mean to say that its not possible to take original pictures-
its just a lot more difficult to be original-

There are maybe too many pictures up here for me,
though obviously not enough for petrolheads-

Some of the people, some of the time-

Oh, and I like the processing and colour too-

5 and 7 for me Martin. I like the sense of competitiveness in these shots. Fair play to you, you’re going out and taking shots in every genre there is! :)

    Martin~

I absolutely love the first one!

I read the comments and Rob’s sentiment really hit home for me.
I don’t know if it’s that sport shots are fairly predictable..or that I don’t know enough about a lot of sports to appreciate the moments.

So~~~ that said…both #1 and #5 really hold my interest as to me they seem more like stories than the average technically lovely capture.

I am not referring to any particular shots I’ve seen in this forum…as I photograph my own kids’ teams and I get tired of looking at my own shots usually!!!

That said…in my teensy experience..I have found sports photography to be extremely challenging and difficult to do well. More power to the people who make sports interesting for non-sporty types :D

    Thanks for the comments all,

On the point of motor sport shots being predictable i have to agree with you. I took a few hundred shots of the bikes and when i got home and after looking at the pics thought to myself that most of the shots were the same. Its like shooting fish in a barrel i think. Just wanted to give motor sports a go to say at least that i tried it. I wont be in a rush to try it again though :-(

Glad some of you liked shot number 1. I think it looks a bit bizarre also. Added it to see what you thought and to see if any of you would mention it. Of all the pictures its the one that stands out for me and the one I like most

    Thanks again all

4, 6, and 7 are the best of the shots alright .. I could see how #1 could appeal to someone without much interest in motorsports. And it is a nice scene setter, but it wouldn’t be my choice of picture.. I’d probably take the picture alright, but I wouldn’t be too keen on it. it’s a bit too bright or something.
