Hi Scotty,
Number 1 is my fav here, a very nice photograph. Have you thought about darkening the sides and top to give it more of a tunnel effect, the light is a bit distracting.
It obviously has a lot of meaning for you. I hope it was a good dream, nothing scary waiting at the end of the tunnel. Not like the Shining!
There is an effect in photoshop called “diffuse glow” which a member of this site pointed out to me recently, .. if you wish to make it more dreamy.I like number 2 composition and conversion-wise, except for the colour pop, but that is purely a personal preference.
Number three is very “posterised” on my screen, making it unsharp, with jagged banding in the sky. It may be your downsizing for the web, or just my screen.
I like the shots, well taken, just suggesting some things for c&c. Hope it helps,
Martin
scotty38886MemberHi martin and thanks for your comments, i will try diffuse glow,
So do you suggest that mabye take out the yellow in the lilly? i want to keep the same brightness in the white but i dont know how to change the shadow on the pettal to show a sloping effect any ideas?
MartinOCParticipantWell, I’m not sure if I’m suggesting to take out the yellow. I’m just saying that its not really my thing. Like shots with very blurred water, I know a shot may be well taken and effective but normally not my personal preference. Many people like the effect and here is is quite suitable. Go with your own vision on this one.
The shots as you have posted here do not have fine graduation between the tones. This may be due to the fact that they are 8 bit images, but I suspect it is something to do with how you compressed them. So the texture in the sky and on the flower isn’t graduated well.
It maybe my laptop screen perhaps someone else will have an opinion too.I’m not an expert in b&w processing, but I would suggest you select the flower but itself and use curves or contrast to try try to bring out more detail. I did that once with a flat sky and it livened it up a lot.
I hope that helps,
Martin
kenhParticipantcan’t comment about the dreamin’ but the first shot has great atmosphere – great conversion job!

scotty38886MemberpihjinMemberI love the first shot… I agree with the comment about the light at the top of it being a bit distracting though… you could either darken it or simply clone in some more foliage …
Wonderful image though… it looks magical and dream like : )
