My embarrassing photograpy moment

I was going through some old shots and found this and it made me smile. I was driving through the mountains with the kids in the back of the car when lo and behold this huge buck appeared off to the left of the road. I slammed on the brakes, pulled over, grabbed the camera and made a beeline in the direction of the magnificent animal. All the while behind me I could hear the kids calling me. *Mom, Mom, Mom, Mother!* Without looking back I repeated ..shush..shhhhhhh..quiet you guys!…
I snapped and snapped and was amazed that the beautiful deer was being so cooperative and put it down to the fact that it is a well traveled area and he was probably used to the attention and was proud.
Finally in unison, my three boys blared, MOM! I whipped around and glared at them, *what on earth do you need?* They answered back, *Mom, it is a statue!* It was a statue.
Does it look like a statue to you? Have you ever had a humiliating experience like this that you would share? Probably not, I am probably the only one who would admit to something this umm, irregular

    Nice one Sharon

I could have seen through it had it been after the mourne trip this year
following a night drinking Joseph’s superb irish coffee’s but no you were
totally sober and driving the car
great story and a story the boys will never let you forget

I saw a peregrine sitting on top of a factory in the city a few
years ago. Brought the car to a squealing halt, jumped out so fast
I bruised my leg on the door catch, breathlessly explained to a
passer-by why I was so excited as I grabbed my “car binoculars”
only to discover it was a plastic pigeon frightener.

    No one else?

Pete~ it is either a common trait among wildlife lovers, or your fault totally for getting me interested in the birds and bees.

and Zoltan…if you were even thinking that I should have been more embarrassed about setting your Mamiya upside down on the table in Davy Byrnes. ..that was a joke ok? I knew that was the bottom. I just wanted to freak you out :D

    Brilliant!!

Gave myself a black eye with a tripod once, and made a nincompoop of myself at a gig while trying to shoot a bass player, forgot to take the lens cap off.

Doesn’t come close to yours though!! tee hee…

I have a very similar story involving a statue of a lizard in Melbourne Zoo.

    I was really embarrassed.

I got really excited, and was fumbling to put my flash on my camera, zoom, moving around to get a better composition, trying to take as many pictures as I could so before it ran away….after I calmed down a little and it hadn’t moved at all I realised it was a statue. It was about four feet away from me.

                      x10,000

p.s. no, it’s not the lizard that’s my avatar. I got even more excited that time.

This might make the manual of how not to set
    up this type of shot.

This is a scan from a very old and faded 6×4 chemist print.

2 quite famous people all the same. :)
