    Hi Guys.
Took my first pictures ever. A bbq in my house on Good friday. I took loads but liked these ones. I tried using the manual settings as best i can. C&C’s welcome.

    Thanks
    Munky

I just looked back and they look huge, for future reference do i need to resize?

    HI Munky,

It’s a good idea to size the pictures to fit in the forum box.

Nice pictures for a first attempt. You captured the mood of the BBQ well :)

    Well done,
They’re good. I hope that you are happy with them.
It is best to use maunual as much as possible, especially when starting out.

Keep it up Munky..like the first and last best…although the last looks a little under exposed, but that will come with time playing with manual settings. At first you’re probably going to end up with a lot of bad shots compared with shooting in Auto mode, but when you start to understand what each setting does you’ll be amazed at what you can achieve with a little perseverance.

Fair play to you for taking the leap… :D

    Thanks guys.
Yeah the last one is a little dark. Never noticed till now. Im going to start going through the manual and seeing what each little setting does. Just had to get snapping…you know new toy and that. Everybody there was happy to have the day documented.

What camera did you buy Munky? If you posted it I missed it..and there’s no Exif on the link.

    Canon EOS 350.
    Whats an Exif?

Nice..You’ll have lots of fun and more to learn with that camera.

Exif is information data that is stored in a digital image. It tells the viewer things like what camera was used…shutter speed and aperture used, white balance settings etc…You can download Exif Viewers online that once installed allow you to right click any image and view the Exif details if there are any present.

and don’t worry..3 months ago I didn’t have the first idea about it either :D

A barbeque, and cans of beer no less, and all on Good Friday?
Tut tut. Whatever happened to sobriety and fish?
Welcome to the forum Munky. Hope you have fun learning.

I disagree with this, personally – IMO it’s much better to use either shutter priority or aperture priority as opposed to full manual. This way, you still have the control to get the effect you want, but the camera helps out with exposure. Far fewer ruined shots, and you still have the ability to learn.

As for the shots? You’re off to a great start! The best way to get better is just to keep on shooting! I need to remember this, personally. I haven’t been out shooting in AGES. But then, perhaps I’ve been distracted, what with the whole “moving out of the country and doing a 6 week whirlwind trip at the same time” thing :)
