My first sports photo here

I found my first sport was quite difficult, I got a shot of one with a boar with his four legs together off the ground but this shot was the only one with a nice background.
Not really a sports photo perhaps, more a spectacle. And I had boar for lunch afterwards

Maybe some slower shutter panning shots would have worked well here.

Interesting image all the same. Not sure it would be a big sport. :D

Nice photo. That leeve it’s a little bit strange there as texture, but the photo is most interesting. I never heard of this sport.

Thanks for your comments, I know the leaves got a bit in the way, but it was dificult to get a good angle.
It is actually in a boar “zoo” where you can learn about boars, and watch them race (or do tricks – balance on barrels etc).

Yes, I think they are shown the retaurant menu before being put into the starting gates.

They still don’t run fast enough for panning shots :D

Was this “zoo” in China by any chance? :D those lovely animal lovers put a lion, yes a lion!! on a horses back in another “zoo” and made it run around. But these guys look healthy and happy enough so i’m sure it’s not tooooo cruel. Looks a little bit like their trying to be motorbikes by leaning around the corners :) As paul said a slow shutter pan would have been great, made em look like turbo boar! :D

This zoo was in Japan, it wasn’t bad actually more like a farm I would say. I’m not a big fan of zoos, I always felt sorry for the animals in Dublin zoo when I went as a child, but I’ve heard it had improved a lot.

They raise animals well over here as they care about food quality a lot. You can even chicken raw, its not bad. And Kobe beef is raised well ~ ” may include a diet of saké and beer, and daily massages to relieve muscle stiffness, presumably resulting in tender meat.” – from wikipedia.
    A cow’s life!

Next time I’ll go for a more action shot with panning… I’ll try to find a sheep race or something.

haha excellent, that’d be more the irish racing scene, not the glitz and glamour of Japanese boar racing :D

    Least they’re not eaten.

Its better to out and about, running around, with space and fresh air, even if you’re a nice dinner at the end of the day.

Not to criticise the zoo, I heard it is very different now, just to explain my memory… as Sinead O’Connor sang, and an image I remember too.

    “I’m not no crocodile
Like the one in Dublin Zoo
    Who lived in a cage
the length and breadth of his body
With a window which people would look through
And throw coins on his back to taunt him
    ‘though he couldn’t move
    Even if he wanted to”

Who can argue with Sinead, a rock of sense.

It’s hypocritical, I’d rather be in a comfy prison then be slaughtered and then eaten.

I came to this forum to see Sport pictures not some person go on about eating animals.

    Cop yourself on.

All right Morrissey, but you better stay away from the food section. There is some atrocious stuff over there, let me say!

You are right, no place for being so anti-animal as my comments clearly were, better to keep these thoughts for the alt.fascism.vegetarianism message boards.

Good day to you Sir!

Dublin zoo has very much changed. It is much larger than it used to be and some of the animals have first class enclosures now with ample space and entertainment. Many enclosures are now double or more the size they used to be.

For anyone who hasn’t visited in the last 5 years – well worth making an effort to see.

It must be at least 25 years since I was there, and as it is (I believe) the 4th oldest in the world and so did suffer from unsuitable inherited infrastructure, more than newer zoo would.

Sorry Martin…but to me..these scream freak show. If it’s meant to be humorous I’m afraid it’s lost on me.

I’m no alt.fascism.vegetarian (whatever that is) member. I’m not even a vegetarian. But I don’t see any appeal in watching what are basically wild animals portrayed in this manner.

The idea of watching your food racing around a track for entertainment does not seem particularly civilised to me.

I wonder would people feel the same if that was the 2.15 at Cheltenham and you were discussing eating the winner after the race?

It’s all to easy to dismiss peoples concerns about animal rights as extremism…whether or not you share those views.
