A sort fo candid shot from our day trip to the zoo on Monday

I am still learning the basics and have just ordered (but not yet received) a Canon 450D (with 17-55mm & 75-250mm lenses). This is the type of composition I would like to learn how to take properly; clear subject with soft background. I would even prefer a more “extreme” version, where the subject’s face is clearly in focus with the rest of their body blurred (ie. angle of photo taken from above the subject or similar).

Can you offer me some tips on how to achieve this type of result?

    Thanks!

    Matthew,

As I am still learning also I dont really feel I am in the position to advise you on this shot but I can tell you my settings for this shot was

    ISO 100
    70-300mm Lens 92mm
    Shutter Speed 1/250

Maybe some of the other guys/gals can be more specific with this. Remember that I was standing a right wee bit back from the subject when this shot was taken.

    Cheers
