Another quick shoot on the seamless white bg. This is my nephew, Nathan. Gotta say, it was hard work. He didn’t want to know for most of it.

I used a slightly different setup with the lights this time. For the bg I have a 430EX on full power with one of those until now, useless, stofen diffusers goboed with some black card from the bottom of a reuseable Tesco bag. To camera right is a 580EXII in a Westcott 28″ square softbox. To camera right is 40″ shoot through umberella with Macro twinlite flash on full power.

In Photoshop with this one, I dropped the value of the highlights back a little to see how it compares.

Compared to this. Also, without a small 1px frame.

The bg flash didn’t recycle in time for this shot. But I like his expression here.

i’m not a huge fan of the “venture” style white backgrounds but the first and thrid of these are my pick
    – I do think that in the first the orange jumper is competing with the child
    – and in the third your perspective is a bit close and distorting – but its super sharp and the eyes are gorgeous !

    (and hes super cute )

    Hi Lorraine
Thanks for the comments. I think attributing the style of these images to Venture is giving them a bit too much credit. Seamless white has been around for a long long time. But I get your point. I stopped short of adding too much colour punch and/or selective colouring in these shots.

I agree with you for the first. His top is on backward in this shot. You should see the front side. Anyway, we took it off for subsequent shots. His mother went to the shop to buy some new tops. The mellowest or most plain she could find in Dunnes is the blue one. So we went with that.

I quite like the perspective of the third one. Infact I was going to take out the super wide angle and try to get even closer. Didn’t in the end cos Nathan had had enough….

    Hi,

These are all wounderful images. I like your style when photographing kids. I particulary like the white background it helps to enhance the child.

    Cheers Noel.
