Need help purchasing a good camera

    Hey guys,

Im very fond of Photography, especially landscapes and nature scenery. I want to get a good camera that can capture really good high quality photos, but at the same time I don’t have thousands to spend.

My smart phone is a Sony Xperia Z3 and if anyone is familiar with this you’ll know it has a pretty good camera for a phone. Now the only reason I purchased this phone was for the camera. I came to the conclusion that I should really just get a decent camera instead of an overpriced smart phone because at the end of the day i dont care for anything else on this phone other than the camera, so I am selling it on and getting a cheap ‘anything’ smartphone to replace it and i am hunting and researching a decent Camera.

I dont have the terminology for what i need so ill describe things best i can. When I look at a beautiful landscape and see a nice sunset, or a nice mountain range, lakes, rivers, scenery in the distance and sky I would like a camera that can capture exactly what I see with my eyes for when I take snaps with this phone or anything else everything looks so far away and i cant capture the beauty. Im guessing its really all in the camera lenses? I also want a camera that has high pixels, so when i take a close up picture of a tree, a leaf, a flower.. ect, you can see it in great detail (HD) I have loved that feature on this Z3.

I plan on searching ebay for a good camera someone suggests (preferable a Nikon as Im told they are very good) and get it second hand for less. Any help at all would be greatly appreciated,

    Thanks guys

Hi, it’s a kind of a great position to be in, but it’s also a complete head wrecker :D
Buying used is a great idea as there are some great deals to be had. From this forum here or adverts or done deal. Ebay can be okay too but no chance to actually check item out before purchase. To be honest at entry level I don’t really think there’s all that much between the main brands Canon or nikon,
Canon shooters will say Canon and vice a versa. Just do lots of research, then when you think you’ve decided do some more :o making that final decision can be really hard. Best thing to do is work out your budget and have a look at what’s available for it. Without knowing what your budget is its hard to know if you would be better off looking at a good bridge camera or a dslr or a mirrorless. Have you any experience with cameras other than your phone because that might also be a stumbling block, not that you couldn’t learn but if you’re after instant results you could be dissapointed.
So. Google bridge cameras, dslrs and mirrorless and try to work out what suits you and your budget best, just keep in mind that unless you’re buying a bridge camera that you will also have to budget for lenses, (wide angle, macro portrait telephoto anything and everything else)
I’m sure others will be able to offer more and better advice but this might get you heading in the right direction.
Welcome to the wonderful world of photography.

    Derek.

Consider Nikon D3200 or the newer D3300. i have the D3200 and as a beginner am very happy with it

Iv purchased nikon d3200 but im planning to set up business so felt expense worth it…however for everyday use I find it v heavy, im just 7 stone and minute I take it out people looking, carrying handbag, baby bag n now a camera bag together bit much…iv to gain confidence I suppose..I recently did a photography course n guys advice was borrow a camera first to see if suits you…
